"I'm currently renovating a bathroom that was covered in pink plastic tiles. After I finished clearing everything out of the room, I had Bob come in and re-plaster the walls and ceiling (ceiling was also covered in the plastic tiles). He did a fantastic job! The room was brand new when he was finished. Bob also contacted me a couple times after the job was done a week or two later just to check in on how things are and to make sure I was still satisfied. I will use him again for future plastering and would highly recommend him to others."

"AMAZING! Goutsmith transformed the look of our kitchen/foyer floor. They did an amazing job cleaning all the color and recoloring it all. It honestly looks like we had a new floor installed when they were finished. Amazing job! Highly Recommend them!"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

If you’re looking for a durable tile for a shower floor, consider porcelain, stone, or vinyl tiles. Each of these options, when installed correctly, will stand up well to everything from water and moisture to the impact from a dropped bottle of body wash. These materials are also easy to clean and maintain, making them popular options for shower floors.

Tile shouldn’t be set tight against the tub. Bathtubs can expand when filled, and they can shift slightly with the weight of occupants. For this reason, it’s important to leave a slight gap between the bathtub and the first row of tile. Aim for a narrow gap of approximately 1/16 of an inch, filled with caulk, to allow for this expansion and movement while still allowing for tile shower waterproofing.

There are a few different tools you can use to score tiles. Manual tile cutters or tile scribes work well for scoring in straight lines. Tile nippers are one of the best options for scoring because they can make small and irregular cuts that larger tools may not be able to handle.

Your floors should be completely level for tile, otherwise you risk damaging the tiles in the future. When there are even small gaps or hills in the subfloor beneath the tile, this puts more pressure on the tile when you walk around on the floor. With repeated traffic, the tiles are at risk of cracking, and you’ll have to deal with tile repairs sooner than if the floor was completely level.

When cleaning porcelain tiles, avoid products that contain ammonia, bleach, and other harsh chemicals. Acid-based cleansers can damage the tile, though you can clean them with a diluted mixture of one-quarter cup white vinegar mixed with one gallon of hot water. It is important always to use a soft-bristled brush or sponge, since hard bristles and steel wool can scratch the tile.
