"This is how it went! I already had one estimate, but wanted the job done earlier, so I contacted Phillip Painting (Felipe Vilela), who came out promptly, surveyed the job, and within a couple days provided an estimate. Since this was the second estimate, I had an idea regarding cost, including cost of labor and cost of paint. Felipe's cost was $500 more than the previous estimate with the same number of painters. What was different was the amount of paint, which I thought was the reason for the extra cost. This apartment is just under 900 square feet (880). Felipe included in the price for paint: 2 five gallons of paint for the ceiling and 2 five gallons of paint for the walls, another two gallons for the baseboards and 1 gallon of primer, a total of 23 gallons of paint with two coats on the walls and one coat on the ceiling. I knew this was an excessive amount of paint, but before I responded to Felipe, I visited SHerwin Williams, the store where he planned to buy the paint (SuperPaint) The associate at Sherwin Williams, agreed with me regarding the excess paint. Based on the paint he intended to buy, the cost would be roughly $709. A gallon of paint covers about 400 square feet. I did some calculations with the store associate and we calculated 4 gallons for the walls for two coats and 2 gallons for the ceiling for one coat. All total, we would need about 8 gallons of paint. I shared this information with Felipe in an email and he agreed to reduce the amount of paint and accept the new cost of $2,500. He was offering a $250 off coupon for any job of $2500 or more. With the coupon, the cost would be $2,250. So we agreed that the total cost would be $2650 with Felipe including $400 for the paint. After the painting was completed, there was one gallon remaining of the wall paint and three-quarters of a gallon remaining of the wood trim. Problem areas included: doors were not painted, small area of baseboard, about 2 feet, left unpainted in one of the bedrooms, unpainted wall inside the living room closet, poor paint job as evidenced by paint left on lighting fixture in kitchen, on range microwave, on ceiling fan in dining area, on newly installed hardwood floors, on closet rod inside the closet. Very unprofessional paint job, purposefully done. What did I learn from this experience," Don't try to negotiate to get a fair price, or a correct price because, in the end, it will cost you, the consumer. Just move on. Before I prepared this review, I sent Felipe an email to see if he would respond. That was at least a week ago. Time to move on. It is what it is!"
