"I had a total of five doors installed. A set of French doors, three bifolds and a bedroom door. A few of them were custom sizes that needed to be trimmed out. Rick did an excellent job. He is conscientious and has a great attention to details. I will be getting him to do our front door also."

"I went with this company because of all the 5 star ratings. I wish I had the pleasure to experience a 5 star service. Unfortunately, I did not. I first have to say that overall the installation of my doors were good. However, in order for me to give 5 stars, the following has to ensue. Professionalism, Punctuality and attention to detail. The head installer Jacob, first arrived with a nasty disposition and when the project started, he had the audacity to have a full blown loud argument with his co-worker in my house, which made me feel uncomfortable and unsafe. Secondly, they were to arrive between 8am & 9am, I get it if one is running late because of traffic or other unforeseen circumstance. They arrived after 9am and a courtesy call would of been nice. Once the project was done, there was no initial walk through with the head installer. Because I already felt a bit intimidated by the earlier ordeal between jacob and his co-worker, I did not ask Jacob for a walk though nor did he offer one. I took it upon myself to do a quick inspection. Everything at face value seemed to look ok. So the next morning once everything settled, I did a more thorough and lengthy inspection. I discovered issues that in hindsight I wish I could of addressed the day of the project. Please see attached photos for what I found. Although these issues I found are minor, I have to say that for almost $10,000, I expected a perfect job to be performed from start to finish. The pictures below are a result of someone not paying attention to detail."

"Got several quotes on a new front entry door and storm door. All of the other sales reps were pushy and one of the Co.'s that came out didn't even give me a written quote when I wouldnt sign immediately. Tom Broido from Graboyes was freindly, knowledgeable and definately not pushy. Tom understood my wants and needs and delivered the best price by far on a new door and storm door. The quality of the door is better than anything I have seen so far. The order process was a little longer than I expected but the manufacturer was having issues with getting all the materials during the covid19 pandemic, which is understandable. I own a twin house built in 1937 with walls that are way out of plum. The installer was experienced, freindly and efficient. He started the job at 9:30 in the morning and finished by 3pm. The door was straight, clean and looked like it was always there. He went over all the features of the doors and what to expect from the door in the future. He was extremely clean and he performed the job on a cold and damp January day. the time of having an empty hole in the wall was kept to a minimum so as not to freeze me out of the house. All in all I am extremely pleased with the whole process. I would definately recomend Graboyes and I wont hesitate to use them again for my next project."

"I would highly recommend this company!! David installed 5 doors in my home today: a fire rated door into the garage, a barn door, two folding doors and a bathroom door along with hardware. His work is excellent, reasonably priced, and neatly done. It was a pleasure to do business with him."

Doors questions, answered by experts

There are certainly perks to hiring a general contractor, but we recommend a closet professional. The reason is that their pricing may make more sense for your project. General contractors tend to search out bigger projects, and because of this, will attach a premium to smaller amounts of work. A closet pro may also have access to a wider range of materials than general contractors (and may be able to negotiate better discounts).

You can use any wood to make an interior door, provided it’s the right thickness. Common options for painted doors include pine or poplar for the stiles, rails, and mullions, and paint-grade plywood for the panels. You can also opt to make your own panels out of pine or poplar if you intend on staining the door instead. Opting for oak, maple, or another hardwood is another great option for a high-end door that will last for decades, but the wood will cost significantly more.

If you don’t know which door sweep to buy, look into getting a strip or bristle sweep. They’re easy to find at the store, work well for most doors, and the simple installation is DIYable. Before buying one, measure your door width and make sure the one you want is long enough. Most door sweeps are 36 inches long, and you can cut them down to size with a hacksaw.

You can often fit a new door slab into an old frame as long as the frame’s in decent shape. The frame needs to be solid, square, and free of warping or rot. The new door has to match the old one in width, height, and thickness, and the hinge and knob placements need to line up or be adjusted carefully. However, if your frame is damaged, swapping just the door won’t cut it. In that case, replacing the entire unit would be the best move for a smooth, secure installation.

Using force to open a door is not recommended, as this could cause serious injury or permanent damage to your door and surrounding door frame. If it’s a front door that you’ve lost the keys for, it’s better to call a locksmith. If it’s an interior door without any lock that you plan on keeping, a handyman can help. Finally, if it’s an old door that you plan to replace anyway, a professional door installer can remove the stuck door and source a replacement.
