"The first project I hired David for was to re-align my gutters and guards. The 2nd was to install security lights and the 3rd will be a new vanity and sink in the bathroom. He does great work, is efficient, fair priced and very professional. Highly recommended! Kerry in Shillington"

"Curtis was great beginning to end. Very communicative and worked around my busy schedule. He replaced 3 closet doors, one of which was a custom size. Originally planned to do the work in 2 days and completed it in one. I will definitely be contacting them again in the near future to complete more home repairs, and would definitely recommend."

"Kitchen Magic was excellent! They came when they said they would be there and the total job took exactly 2 1/2 days (I have a large kitchen with 38 cabinet fronts and drawers), Caleb Cartwright was my designer and he picked out a floor to go with the cabinets and the whole kitchen is beautiful! People think I redid the whole kitchen from scratch! I would definately recomment Kitchen Magic."

Landscape timbers can last 10 to 20 years in the ground when installed correctly. Pressure-treated timbers will last longer than non-treated ones, as pressure treatment makes the wood more rot-resistant. Wood exposed to high moisture levels or extreme temperature and weather fluctuations may not last as long as wood in drier areas with more consistent weather.

If you’re just replacing a few broken or damaged joists, you can expect to pay anywhere from $100 to $300 per joist. However, a complete installation for a home or room will take into account the cost of labor, which ranges from $25 to $40 per hour. Floor joist installation for an entire room, for example, can cost between $5,000 and $10,000, depending on the room's size and the materials used.

Yes, you can find ceiling joists using simple tools if a stud finder isn't available.

Using a hammer requires patience and a keen ear. Gently tap the ceiling in a grid pattern, listening for sound changes. A hollow sound indicates space between joists, while a solid, dull thud suggests a joist. Mark the location with a pencil and confirm by tapping from different angles.

Alternatively, you can use a nail, but this method will leave small holes. You'll feel increased resistance when the nail hits a joist. Mark the spot and repeat the process every 16 or 24 inches to map the joist locations. This method is considered less reliable than using a stud finder.

No, you do not usually tip a carpenter for their work. However, if you’ve been very happy with the level of service and quality of work, a 10% to 20% tip would likely be accepted with thanks. If you’re not sure, it can help to discuss the carpenter’s policy or preference for tipping before beginning the project.

No, beams are the primary load-bearers for flooring or roofing systems, and they distribute the weight of the structure to your foundational supports, while joists bear far less weight and distribute their loads to the beams. Beams are usually thicker and longer, and they have support posts or foundation walls beneath them for support.
