"Sean and his assistant did a great job grading and seeding a new drain line I had installed last fall, repairing my patio wall and filling in behind the wall. They also took the excess dirt from grading and filled in an area in my yard that was low. They graded an seeded this extra area and included it in the original quote. After finishing the job they cleaned up everything. If I ever need any excavating ,grading or drain work done in the future I will call High Cause Construction. Thank again to Sean for a job well done."

"Professional and courteous office and on site staff (Operator). The Operator explained in detail the work to be performed and answered all questions without hesitation. The company provides equipment that prevents damage to lawn/property, and the costs were reasonable. My only recommendation would be for the office staff to mention the charge to dig up the septic cover up front. The Operator was thorough and mentioned the charge before starting the work. I definitely would not hesitate to use Avalanche Septic Services again for any of the services they provide."

"I reached out to Matt on Thursday. He called me on Friday, came and gave us an estimate on Saturday. Work was completed on Monday! Our driveway was a mess and he was able to level it and re-rock it. It looks fantastic!! I highly recommend MTG construction."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Yes. A metal detector is one of the quickest and easiest ways to find your septic tank. However, metal detectors can be too expensive (costing upward of $300 in some cases), and not everyone has a metal detector just lying around. If that’s the case for you, you can also take a long metal rod and poke it into the ground at regular intervals until you hit something—likely your septic tank lid.

The easier way to find buried sprinkler lines is to use the plan from the professionals who installed the system. If you don’t have professional plans, listen for running water on your lawn when you turn on the system. You may also spot wet areas, giving you an idea of where the heads are. Once you find the sprinkler heads, you’ll likely be able to connect the dots between them, revealing the system below.

How deep your septic system needs to be into the ground depends on several factors. In extremely cold environments, the tank needs to rest below the maximum frost line, which can be up to six or eight feet deep. The standard burying depth for most systems is between a few inches and four feet below ground level. Depth can also depend on the slope of the landscaping and other property variables.

Trenches are typically 12 to 24 inches deep and 8 inches wide. However, the required depth depends on the specific project and local ordinances. For example, a French drain may need to be 18 inches deep, while a water pipe might require a depth of 24 inches and a drainage pipe 36 inches. Your city or county may have specific regulations, so it's wise to consult with an excavation professional to determine the correct depth for your project.

Yes, professional installations include trenching or borehole drilling required for ground loops.
