"This whole experience has been nothing but a pleasure with all that have come out to put a new roof and gutters on and to also install insulation in my attic. The two gentlemen (Mike and Ethan) who did the insulation were outstanding. Curteous and very very nice young men and a pleasure to talk to. They did an outstanding job and I would HIGHLY recommend this company when it comes to having any home exterior jobs done. If I could give them a 100 stars I would!!!!"

"Down to earth and tells you the truth about what you are getting. The other installers were not like Matthew Harr. I put a star by his name after I talked to him. I knew I would be calling him back. Give him a call for your next insulation project. You will not regret it! I would definitely call him again."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

The best time to insulate a garage ceiling is when the weather is mild and dry. That means it shouldn’t be stormy, snowy, or raining, and the temperatures should be comfortable. Ideally, you’ll insulate your garage ceiling in the fall, before winter hits. Not only will you be the most comfortable, but you’ll also likely see the greatest energy savings heading into the colder weather with a newly insulated garage.

If you have blown-in insulation, using an insulation vacuum will quickly and easily suck up all the insulation. Many come with built-in HEPA filters for added safety. While some people suggest breaking up large batts and feeding them into the vacuum, this can expose you to more fiberglass fibers. With batts and rolls, carefully removing them and placing them into garbage bags is a better process.

To keep cold out, look for treatments that sit close to the window frame and are made from thick, insulating materials. Thermal curtains, cellular shades, window quilts, and insulated shutters can all help retain heat. Layering window treatments, like pairing lined curtains with cellular shades, can provide even better insulation by further reducing drafts and heat transfer.

The lifespan of insulation depends on the material type. Fiberglass can last between 80 and 100 years, but it is important to start checking it around the 15-year mark. Spray foam has a lifespan of up to 100 years, and mineral wool can last up to 100 years. Cellulose, an eco-friendly option, has a lifespan of 20 to 30 years.

Most insulation lasts 15 to 20 years, but it really depends on the type of insulation. Spray foam is a permanent insulation material that can last up to 100 years. Fiberglass and cellulose typically settle, shift, or deteriorate around 15 years. Once your insulation reaches the 15-year mark, it's time to check it for signs of needing to be replaced.
