"I contacted Green Way Solar to inquire about adding solar panels to my home. The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable about solar, they helped me understand how exactly solar works and which solar system would be right for my home. After agreeing upon the solar installation proposal. the installation was under way within a few weeks. The install crew was timely and hard working, they answered any questions on the job and didn't hesitate to walk me through the details. Overall I feel like this project turned out great. Not only am I powering my home with solar, I consistently receive compliments from my neighbors on how they look. I would highly recommend Green Way Solar and will choose them again for my next home."

"I needed to replace a damaged section of roof that had 13 solar panels on it. I tried every installer in CT to get the panels removed and even tried the parent company, Omnidian. They all wanted to install new panels for me, but no one wanted to remove and reinstall existing solar panels. NYSM was willing to do the job even though I was outside their normal service area. They took all the panels off and stored them at the house and then reinstalled them after the roof work was complete. My wife remarked several times how nice, polite and hard working the crew was, especially Tito! He worked by himself on a Saturday to get everything installed and working before a snowstorm hit. I can't say enough good things about this company. Excellent in every aspect! 10 stars!!!"

Solar Panels questions, answered by experts

Solar panels can protect your roof from hail, as they can withstand hail up to 1 inch in diameter that falls up to 50 mph. Your solar panels may experience damage if the hailstones are bigger and travel faster. Your roof can still suffer hail damage, and it’s essential to look for signs and repair issues right away. Roof damage can lead to leaks and water damage inside your home.

Yes, going solar really saves money. In fact, according to some calculations, the average homeowner who switches from electric to solar power will save almost $2,000 a year on energy costs. While buying solar panels and switching to solar can be costly up front, the savings add up over time. If you can sell back extra energy or take advantage of tax incentives, your savings can be even higher.

You can install solar panels on a flat or pitched roof, but keep in mind that they will need to rest at a 30- to 50-degree tilt for optimal sun absorption. It costs more to install solar panels on a flat roof because you will need to install a framing system and likely hire a structural engineer. If your roof has a pitch of more than 40 degrees, it may not be a good candidate for solar panels.

DIY solar panel installations are hard to manage by yourself. You’ll likely need some help or prior experience to make the project worth the effort.

The morning sun can be better for solar panels because it’s often brighter and clearer than the afternoon sun. The brighter the sun, the more energy solar panels produce. The strongest rays occur during midday, which tends to be prime time for solar energy generation. Most homes get a mix of morning and afternoon sunlight.
