"Scott and helper Dexter did a beautiful job. The transformation is remarkable. Scott was courteous and helpful with great attention to detail. His prior experience in the construction industry with new homes and methods and older homes like mine makes all the difference. He had many good suggestions. His forte is carpentry. The woodworking was superb. He also has a good understanding of foundation and structure stresses. I have confidence that his work will last a long time and my home is much more stable because of the work that he has done. I would advise that in electrical matters that an electrician is consulted and/ or do the electrical work. Scott wants very much to please and may attempt work in areas where he is less experienced. He may also suggest not doing certain work because of large electrical undertakings. We worked through the difficulties and he brought in a very reasonable and competant registered electrician to do the work that was necessary. I was most impressed in the quality and cost of his work. He even helped me in other ways by carrying very heavy objects and offering requested advice on other personal projects. Some special considerations: My house was not yet lived in and considering the amount of work, a lot of dust was raised. I might have requested that a filtering device be used with power tools in the house if I had it to do over again. Also, I received Scott's estimate in a timely manner ( one week ahead of another contractor) but actual start time was delayed several times. I understand now that scott's value of quality over quantity and his willingness to accomodate additional work requests on each job can push his schedule later than might be expected. The wait was well worth it. I will definitely ask Scott for help with future home improvements."

Wallpapering questions, answered by experts

Hanging wallpaper may seem simple, but in practice it requires significant planning and finesse to make it look professional. To start, you need to get an even application of wallpaper paste across all of your wallpaper, which requires experience and large pasting tables to get right. You also need to plan out your design and match it exactly so that you don’t have imperfections in the finished product. It’s often better to hire a professional wallpaper hanger who can get the job done properly for a clean, smooth finish.

Once again, contact with moisture is the culprit here, though water-resistant varieties of wallpaper are less likely to become wet and develop mold. Using a high-quality exhaust fan or dehumidifier and leaving the doors or windows cracked after bathing will keep this issue at bay.

We don’t recommend wallpapering over older paper. That’s because creating layers of glue can invite bubbling or excess moisture on the wall’s surface. You should also prime your wall before applying wallpaper and smooth the wall as much as you can, and another layer of wallpaper complicates this process.

Having dated, peeling, or otherwise damaged wallpaper can decrease the value of your property, so removing that before listing your house is nearly always a good idea; however, since wallpaper tends to be a personal style choice, potential buyers may or may not love your aesthetic as much as you do.

Love the look of wallpaper but want to consider property value as well? Stick with something that is easy to change. If you are thinking of selling soon, make sure your wallpaper hanging is on-point and looks professional with no crooked seams, evenly matched patterns, and minimal bubbling or other imperfections.

While peel-and-stick wallpapers require no time to cure, the adhesives for other types of papers will take a day or two to dry and up to three weeks to fully cure. The differences are the type of paper, the type of adhesive, and the humidity and temperature in the space.
