"I could not be happier with this company. They did the work right away, even working on the weekends. They were very knowledgeable about what needed to be done and how to get the debris tested they have been very responsive. They have continued to be helpful to me in dealing with the company that left the silica dust in my home. You will not be disappointed if you use this company. I have never seen a company that is so attentive to your needs.

"There are few times that I use a company and know, without any doubt, that I made the perfect choice. This certainly is the case with CES. I got 7 estimates and researched companies thoroughly before settling on CES. From the time Mike came to assess the job and give an estimate through the final testing to insure that the mold remediation was effective, Mike provided professional, expert information and service. He walked me through each step to make sure I understood what was happening and why. He and his team are calm, accommodating and will do what is needed to get the job done the right way. His pricing was very reasonable and, at no time, did he start suggesting add-ons. It turned out that when we opened a wall there was extensive damage to the frame, etc. that no one anticipated. Mike was able to get a carpenter out there the same day. They provided a reasonable bid and began work the next day. CES is one of the few companies that is large enough to have those kind of resources. Had I gone with one of the other companies, chances are I would have needed to find a contractor on my own, which would have delayed the mold remediation and inflated the price. He also was one of only two companies that could include restoring the rooms after remediation whereas most companies leave you to find your own painter, etc. In the end, after extensive carpentry and mold remediation, the areas he worked on look as good, or better, than before we started. Remarkable. I very rarely write reviews. I am so grateful to CES for what they did and how they did it that I wanted to demonstrate my gratitude and share the information with those of you who need to deal with the stress and mess of mold remediation."

"Excellent work. John News was very responsive right from the start. He and his workers removed all the carpet and the asbestos floor tiles that were the culprit. They arrived on time and finished the work leaving me a clean room and a certificate indicating the air levels at completion. My daughter in law had rejected living there when she was informed by a carpet salesperson that under the carpet in the family room were asbestos tiles. Now the room is asbestos free and my family is moving in next week. Thanks so much to John News and Roe Services. I would use them or recommend to anyone who is in need of this service. ???"

Lead Testing and Removal questions, answered by experts

DIY kits are available for basic air quality testing, but professional services provide more comprehensive results and recommendations. While a DIY kit may seem cost-effective, a professional assessment is more thorough. Inspectors are better equipped to catch all pollutants and hazards, and you'll still need a professional to verify and act on DIY test results. Furthermore, some kits don't test for certain pollutants or only detect their presence without measuring specific levels (like mold spores). It's generally better to opt for a detailed professional assessment.

You should ask a few questions to ensure that your potential lead removal professional is experienced and qualified to handle lead-paint abatement safely, legally, and properly.

  • What are your qualifications and experience removing lead-based paint?

  • Are you licensed and certified to remove lead-based paint?

  • How do you test for lead paint?

  • What methods do you use for lead-based paint abatement?

  • What do you plan to do with the hazardous material when you remove it from the home?

  • Do you do replacement and painting work or removal only?

Lead toxicity comes from inhaling lead or consuming it. Before the 1980s, when the government banned lead from consumer use, it could be found in paint, plumbing, pipes, ceramics, and even gasoline. Lead paint is toxic for the same reason lead itself is toxic, which is why lead poisoning from paint presents the same as lead poisoning from water or food sources, with a slight increase in respiratory symptoms vs. digestive symptoms. Lead paint is most dangerous when it’s old and peeling, cracking, or otherwise disturbed. This increases the concentration in the air and, therefore, in breathable air.

Lead removal services typically cost between $1,000 and $5,000, depending on the extent of lead presence, the property size, and the complexity of the abatement process.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), hazardous waste is generally classified into four main categories:

1. Characteristic Wastes: These exhibit at least one of four hazardous traits: ignitability (flammable, like gasoline), corrosivity (can rust or decompose materials, like car batteries), reactivity (unstable and can explode, like aerosol cans), or toxicity (harmful when ingested, like lead-based paint).

2. Listed Wastes: These are specific wastes from manufacturing and industrial processes that the EPA has officially designated as hazardous. They include byproducts from processes that use solvents, pesticides, and other chemicals.

3. Universal Wastes: These are commonly generated hazardous items that are subject to streamlined regulations. Examples include batteries, pesticides, mercury-containing equipment (e.g., bulbs), and some lamps.

4. Mixed Wastes: This category includes waste that contains both hazardous and radioactive components, making it subject to regulation by both the EPA and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
