"Home improvement project which included repair and replacement of deck and installation of vinyl shed with new floor was completed diligently and patiently in compliance with building code. "After months of planning I finally decided that I wanted to go ahead and renovate my kitchen along with my downstairs bathroom. I did some searching on local contractors in the area and was fortunate enough to come across JNJ - I have to say what a blessing it was to come across such a company. From the day JNJ came to my home to give me an detailed and informed estimate I knew I was in good hands. Nicholas who handled the majority of the renovation went above and beyond to help bring to life what I had envisioned for months. Not only did he provide excellent suggestions and insight to areas that I wouldn't have even thought of, he went the extra mile showing me materials that cost a fraction of what I was originally intending them to and have an even better appearance. When it came to demolishing the existing kitchen he even showed me where insulation was missing in it's exterior walls and suggested re-insulating to keep my home energy efficient as possible. JNJ truly transformed my kitchen and bathroom into what I dreamed them to be. I am forever thankful for their hard work and phenomenal craftsmanship their team put into my home. Not only did they create something magnificent but their charismatic approach to make sure I was 100% satisfied is unmatchable by anyone I have ever had work in my home before. Can't wait for the next project - Thanks JNJ!!!"

"EXCELLENT! I would and I plan on hiring him again. The front deck was falling to disrepair and the stairs were steep and dangerous. We never had a walkway put in so there was quite a bit of work to be completed. All the work was completed in an excellent, professional manner, with new stairs relocated leading to the driveway. He added a walkway and cleaned up all our overgrown vegetation. The deck was sanded back to original wood, deck sealer and painted beautifully. We had him build a wooden gate to match the deck design. Five stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️"

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Homeowners should build their floating decks at least 18 inches off the ground. Having it at this height will allow for better airflow underneath and help prevent moisture-related problems like warping or rot. That being said, local guidelines for deck heights may vary depending on where you live.

Yes, adding a composite deck, such as one made from Trex, can significantly increase your home's value. It is a valuable home renovation for recouping costs, with some estimates for return on investment (ROI) ranging between 60% and 70%. More recently, Remodeling's 2024 Cost vs. Value Report suggests a deck addition has an ROI of 82.9%, with an average resale value of nearly $14,600. A new deck makes your yard more functional, enhances the landscape's aesthetic, and can entice prospective buyers. The investment may have a higher return if the deck adds usable square footage to the property.

Whether you need a permit depends on the deck design and local regulations. Most areas mandate a building permit if the deck is over a specific height or if it's attached to a pre-existing structure. Shorter, freestanding decks may not require a permit, but you should check with local zoning ordinances and your homeowners association for specifics.

You should refinish your deck to maintain its appearance, durability, and longevity. Refinishing your deck protects the wood from foot traffic and the elements. It also helps extend its life span by keeping rot, mildew, and termites at bay. By maintaining your deck, you can avoid the cost of replacing your deck sooner. A refinished deck also looks great and restores some of its original beauty.

A deck doesn’t have to be perfectly level. Many pros even recommend a gentle slope to ensure proper drainage and increase longevity. The ideal gentle slope is about 1/8 to 1/4 inch per foot away from the property, leading water away from the home to prevent pooling and reduce the risk of damage. It also minimizes rot, mold, and other moisture-related problems.
