"Sky High Services exceeded our expectations in every way. We had a tree that needed urgent removal, and their crew responded promptly with a fair quote and expert service. They brought the tree down without damaging our fence or landscaping. The cleanup was great, and their communication throughout the process was top-notch. "We've used them on several occasions, both for our front and back yards and on a varitey of trees (age, type). In each case we've dealt with their owner, Max, who is quite knowledgeable. We appreciate that we were never being sold a package. He was really most concerned about the health of each tree, balanced with our safety and even our neighbors'. We were often able to prune trees in ways that let them live longer and healthier, and not compete with other trees on our property. Highly recommended!"

"I’m happy with the end project. The reason it’s 4 stars and not 5, is due to some service delays and unexpected installation errors (which were addressed quickly and fairly). The overall quality of the work completed is quite good, and I’m happy to be able to actually use my backyard now. They were able to regrade my backyard and install artificial turf within a fair price and warranty."

And the best part is that there was no resulting damage to my driveway and lawn when using the mini-excavator because Josh took the necessary precautions. I am very pleased. Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Surface-level tree roots might only pose a small threat, such as being a tripping hazard or obstacle when you mow your lawn. But if mature tree roots start growing in the direction of your home’s foundation or plumbing system, it could be a real problem. Cutting small tree roots out before they grow too large can keep your home safe without removing the whole tree.

Debris removal is often included in the overall cost of having a tree removed from your property. However, tree maintenance service companies do not always include debris removal in their pricing, so ask any contractors offering tree trimming cost estimates whether or not removal is included. If you want to keep the wood mulch, ask if they charge extra for it as well.

Yes, cutting a tree's roots can cause it to fall, particularly if major support roots are severed. In extreme cases, trimming roots can affect the tree's structure and stability. Many crucial roots are located just below the soil's surface. If you make severe cuts to roots more than 2 inches in diameter, you risk impacting the tree's water flow and its ability to withstand severe winds or storms. Even cutting roots less than half an inch in diameter under or outside the tree's canopy can cut off its water supply, causing it to decline, die, and eventually topple.

It is possible to cut down a tree on your property yourself, but it is generally not recommended unless specific conditions are met. You should only consider this project if the tree is small (e.g., under 4-5 inches in diameter and short enough that you don't need a ladder to reach the branches), and you are experienced in handling a chainsaw. The tree must also be located far from any power lines, fences, homes, or other structures. Even for small trees, the work can be dangerous, and it's always advisable to have a spotter to ensure the tree falls correctly and no branches fall on you.

For any tree that is large, requires a ladder to access, or is near electrical lines or structures, you should always hire a professional. Attempting to remove a large tree yourself is extremely dangerous, poses a risk of serious injury, and could result in significant damage to your property.

Before any tree removal, it's also important to check your local and state regulations to ensure the tree is not historic or otherwise protected by your city.

Any tree that needs to be pruned should be pruned to remove dead branches at least once a year. You may need to prune far more often if you’re trying to maintain a certain shape or to save a tree that suddenly becomes infected.
