"I’m rating 5 stars even though I ended up not needing the service. I met with Jake from Zack & Co Lock and Key LLC. He was knowledgeable and professional. He offered good guidance and a firm fair quote for replacing locks on our storm and entry doors. Just before ordering the new handle/lock set I was able to find our lost keys for both doors in the glovebox of my wife’s car. If I have a locksmith need in the future - I’ll definitely contact Jake at Zack & Co first."

"Chris is very professional and experienced. He not only completed all the repairs I originally hired him for, but also took the time to thoroughly check the house and point out other items that needed attention. He went above and beyond by taking care of several small fixes at no extra charge — tightening loose screws on a sagging screen door, adjusting a door strike plate so it would close properly, and carefully sealing exposed wood with caulk to prevent future issues. Chris is detail-oriented, honest, and clearly takes pride in his work. Communication was easy, the job site was left clean, and the quality of work was excellent. I would definitely hire him again and highly recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable handyman."

"I called Alarm Protection Group AFTER my office was burglarized. Now I feel SAFE. William is great to work with. He's neat and tidy, prompt, presentable - not a butt-crack type of guy, and he doesn't leave a mess in his wake. He's also knowledgeable about the equipment and only uses high-quality products."

Small jobs welcome

"Jeff is absolutely the "best in class"! I have worked with many contractors, personally & professionally in my line of work in insurance. He is first & foremost HONEST - with an incredible work ethic. I know that I was fortunate to have found him & used his services for nearly 10 jobs over the last 2+ years. He is fair & diligent. I'm only sorry that I can't take him to MD with me - as I moved from the Pittsburgh area. He's done electrical, power washing, appliance installs, gutter work, etc... If you have time for your job - get on h is list - he's worth the wait. Thanks Jeff - for everything!! Best to you and your family!!!"

"ADT is the best company to talk to in terms of security alarm. Being a locksmith myself I know how important it is to deal with the right people. I referred a lot of customers to them and so far they are happy with their service. I myself got one for my house. Thank you for a consistent service and great deal."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

There are several situations when you should change or replace your locks to ensure your home's security. Key moments include moving into a new house, after a break-in or attempted break-in, or when a roommate or anyone else with a key moves out. It is also wise to change your locks if you lose your keys, especially if they have an address attached or you suspect they were stolen. Finally, if your locks are old, broken, worn out, or have become unreliable, they should be replaced.

Begin by checking the power source, typically a battery or wired connection. Ensure the battery is installed correctly, has sufficient charge, and isn't corroded. If it's a wired lock, examine the electrical connections to confirm they are secure and free from damage. Additionally, inspect the lock's programming or settings. Confirm that user codes or access credentials are programmed correctly and that any remote control devices are paired and functional.

Most door knobs can be removed with a Phillips or flathead screwdriver. If you don’t have either of those available, a paper clip or small pin can sometimes work, but the extra effort may not be worth a quick trip to the hardware store.

Newer, electric-powered door locks generally have a life span of five years or less. That’s thanks, in large part, to a phenomenon called planned obsolescence, in which products are programmed to need replacing after a certain amount of time. That’s also why older, manual, push-key locksets can last up to 30 years with regular cleanings and maintenance. When it does come time for a new set-up, know that the cost to change locks ranges from $130 to $500 on average.

The good news is that, yes, you can change locks yourself. Many people find it’s an easy DIY project that requires few tools and not much expense (depending on which lock you’re installing). If you have trouble with any part of an installation, you can always call a locksmith to help finish installing them.
