"Solarshield Metal Roofing was very professional from the sales team to the contractors from start to finish. Everyone I spoke to was eager to help with any questions I asked and had an understanding whether it was their department or not. They were very respectful of my property and finished in a timely manner. Once the job was finished it was like they weren’t even there aside from a stunning new roof."

"MHI exceeded expectations! Had a minor leak during strong winds, which indicated our original roof urgently required replacement. Recommended by a coworker, MHI proved exceptional. Transparent throughout, they provided ample visuals, expertly addressed queries, and detailed the roofing process, our roof's condition, available solutions, and financing options. Communication was seamless, accommodating calls or texts. They completed the roof and gazebo replacement in just one day. For comprehensive service, choose MHI. I wholeheartedly endorse them and am willing to share my positive experience with anyone interested."

"Professional Construction Solutions and Brandon have been our best experience with home contractors ever. Our needs were listened to, the work was done in a timely manner, and work quality was good. They installed our rather large roof in 4 days and cleaned up very well. I got quick responses to my concerns. Price was fair. Altogether we were very pleased and have no hesitation in recommending them for roofing work."

Customers say: Terrific value

"Roy was professional and prompt. He showed up when he said he would and his crew did as well. The crew worked hard and fast. However, they had some practices that seemed questionable in my mind. Although it is normal to lay metal roofing over a single layer of shingles, they tossed the scrap shingles from the vent and edges between the slats that they screwed the metal roof to and then covered them with the metal roof. Doesn't seem professional in that regard. I had asked that the moss on the shingles be cleaned off and it was not and I was told it wouldn't matter. They covered right over it. They installed a gutter guard on one gutter as quoted and requested. I assumed they would clean the gutter before installing the guard. A gutter guard is useless on a plugged up gutter right? My mistake. They did not clean it. When I called about the gutter overflowing, Roy came out and unplugged the gutter himself. I once again assumed he would clean the entire gutter, but he did not. As a result, it plugged up again during the next rain and now overflows again. These guys are good. They work hard and fast. Materials seem to be good quality. They will do what you ask but you MUST be specific and cannot assume anything. They will do EXACTLY what you ask and nothing more. I strongly recommend watching the entire project to make sure EVERYTHING you request and pay for is being done or corners will be cut. If you question why they are doing what they do, the answers make it seem as if it is standard practice. They did a good job with the roof. I felt they were in a hurry to get done and off to the next job and were looking for ways to make it faster and cheaper for them. Such as not taking scrap with them that could be hidden with he new roof. I would recommend to a friend or neighbor but I would caution them to watch and make sure the job is being done they way you want it done. My gutter still overflows!"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Yes, all roofs can benefit from flashing. Roof flashing can protect a property from water damage, roof leaks, mold, and other serious issues. It’s vital if you’d like to extend the lifespan of your roof and avoid costly repairs down the road.

A chimney cap costs about $300 on average to install, with prices ranging from $75 to $1,000. The final cost depends on several factors, including the professional you hire, the accessibility of your chimney, the cap's material and size, whether any repairs are needed, and if it requires custom fabrication. Chimney caps are usually made from galvanized steel, stainless steel, or copper. Copper caps are the most expensive, followed by stainless steel and then galvanized steel. Excluding labor, average material costs are around $100 for galvanized steel, $250 for stainless steel, and $600 for copper. You may also face additional costs, such as hiring a chimney sweep to clean the chimney before the cap is installed.

Yes, it’s possible to replace drip edge flashing without removing shingles, but it’s not a good idea. You’ll have to lift the bottom shingles up to remove the old drip edge, install the new material, and then lay the lifted roofing material over the new drip edge. Bending roof shingles can cause damage, and if you have ongoing issues with roof leaks that prompt drip edge replacement, it’s a good idea to consider a roof and drip edge replacement to avoid ongoing issues.

Flapping shingles, or shingles that are lifting or curling away from your roof, can be glued back into place using roofing cement or sealant. Apply the glue underneath the shingle, then press it down firmly. You can leave a brick on top of the shingle to hold it in place overnight while the sealant dries.

You’re going to need a permit for nearly every roof-raising project. This is a very important step, as the work you’re doing has serious safety considerations. Professionals are the ones to handle this type of work—including sourcing the permits—as they have the expertise required to perform the work safely. Insurance and warranty are usually voided if you do this work without a permit, and you may even be required to halt construction and tear it down as a penalty for working without a building permit.
