"Well temperatures outside were hitting the high 90's for several consecutive days so we were desperate. Unfortunately, every HVAC provider that we called were booked solid for the next week. I was in a hair salon and after being there about an hour I noticed a man in uniform come in the salon the name on his shirt said All City HVAC. I mentioned to my stylist that it felt great in here already and that I was in need of HVAC service at home. She introduced me to Mr. Smith, he pulled out his phone where he had his schedule and said he could meet my husband at the house in an hour because he was just doing service check ups. I phoned my husband who was Leary at first that someone in that field would be available, however he met Mr Smith at our house within the hour. 2-1/2 hours later I returned home and not only had the problem been identified - we needed a new compressor outside and the unit in the attic had never been replaced but repaired it was 22 years old. Mr Smith retired 6:30am the next morning and worked with his assistant for hours in the attic where temperatures were over 100 degrees. By mid afternoon they were cleaning up and my house was feeling like we were in Alaska! Great experience. I would and have recommended Allcity HVAC services"

"Called Josh on a Saturday morning to report a problem with our heat pump by noon he was here and had identified the problem. We are very happy with this company as they do not use a 1000% markup on parts like some HVAC companies in the area seem to charge. With Air Adviser you get Honest service at an Honest price."

"They do the checks for free. Mostly safety checks. Making sure there's no leaks anywhere. They do really well. They are punctual and show up on time. If they say they will be there at a certain time, they are there."

"Mike was great and his team was too !   He scheduled the work quickly and actually visited the site prior to be sure he had the right equipment.  He and his team were right on time and the guys worked very hard in tight spaces doing a better job than the original contractor had done.  All of the damaged flex line was removed and brand new lines were installed and elevated with zip ties off the ground to better avoid varmint damage in the future.  Mike checked my furnace and did some quick maintanance in it for me.  He is extremely experienced and very personable, and his price was extremely fair.  I would (and will) call Mike Bowen for any and all future HVAC, electrical, plumbing and gas needs for my cottage.... EXCELLENT GUY - EXCELLENT COMPANY.

"Computer did the "gotta send info to Microsoft" but when tried to reboot it ran through automatic repair without success. I did all the alternative without any success. He came and picked up the hard drive on Tuesday and returned it on Saturday. Fortunately he was able to "restore" without any data loss. Very happy with outcome."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Most HVAC companies charge a flat service call fee of between $75 and $150, which includes traveling to your home and inspecting your system to find the underlying problem. Keep in mind that these prices only include diagnostics and the actual repairs will usually be billed separately. If you’re calling for routine service, the service call will be included in your inspection and tune-up, with the total sitting around $150. Your prices could be a little higher if you have a very large home with multiple condensers and air handlers, as inspections and servicing take longer.

If you’re planning an AC replacement, choosing an AC with a higher SEER rating may save you money in the long run. Tax credits could cover as much as 30% of the job, and you’ll notice smaller utility bills (particularly if you live in a hot climate where you need to constantly run the AC). Generally, you can expect to pay between $350 and $1,500 for each SEER rating increase. Weigh the cost against your typical utility bill to figure out what’s worth it to you.

You should use a breathable, weather-resistant cover with ventilation. It can be a top cover or a full cover that has mesh to allow airflow. A full, non-breathable cover can cause moisture to build up, leading to rust, frozen parts, and corrosion. A full cover also attracts unwanted critters, such as mice, that can damage the wiring and your unit. If you need to protect your AC unit from falling icicles, choose a sturdy top cover or piece of wood that prevents icicles from damaging your unit.

There are a few ways to determine if a vent is open or closed. You can inspect the vent and examine the position of the fins. If there are spaces between them, the vent is open. If the fins are flat and touching, the vent is closed. You can also stand under the vent when the system is running to see if you feel air flowing through it.

To reduce AC startup power for a whole-house generator, install a soft start kit or hard start capacitor, which lowers the initial surge by gradually ramping up the compressor. Using a smart load manager can also help by staggering startup loads, preventing a system overload and future costly repairs.
