"I liked that there was no nonsense. Their salesman was straightforward and the price was fair. We were also impressed with the installers. They installed all the windows in 1 day and they look great. I'm happy I chose them."

"They were wonderful! They contacted me immediately about the job and stayed in communication until their arrival, which was on time. They got right to work replacing my broken window and were quick, did the job right and cleaned up afterwards. They were also very pleasant and easy to work with. "Steve Pontius made several concrete repairs to my porches. He replaced the wooden steps on my back porch. He also did several smaller jobs and checked my rain gutters. He cleaned, sanded and painted railings with a high quality paint. Steve has integrity and does a great job for a fair price. I will surely hire Steve Pontius Landscaping and Repairs in the future for additional projects to be done around my home!"

Window Door Contractors questions, answered by experts

Most window screens in residential homes are designed to be removed from the inside, especially with double-hung, single-hung, and casement styles. That said, some setups require exterior removal. Older homes or custom installs may have exterior clips or brackets, and sunscreens are almost always mounted on the outside. Before removing your window screen, look at how it is held in place.

If you’d rather repair your screen door mesh than replace it, you can patch it. Purchase a mesh patch for screen doors with small holes or tears, especially if the mesh is pretty new. Hardware stores and websites sell mesh patches that are easy to apply with an adhesive or a warm hair dryer. Keep in mind that repairs won’t look as aesthetically pleasing in most cases as a full replacement.

While sometimes used interchangeably, screen doors and storm doors have key differences. Screen doors are simple structures, typically composed of just a frame and a screen, designed to keep out bugs while allowing air circulation. In contrast, storm doors are heavier and more complex, built to protect your home's main entry door from weather and intruders. They usually feature an aluminum frame with interchangeable tempered glass and screen panels, allowing you to switch between ventilation and insulation. A storm door offers more protection and versatility but generally costs more than a basic screen door.

Rescreening your porch can take a few hours to a whole day, depending on the size of the enclosure and the amount of screen that needs replacing. If you decide to have a professional handle the rescreening, be sure to get a timeline and a cost estimate so you know how long you’ll be without the screened-in space.

You can add any type of window to a brick house, so long as the window has proper support. Windows with wider openings and windows in brick walls will need a lintel to support the extra weight above the window frame. A lintel is a support beam that distributes the weight from above evenly around the window.
