You should wait for caulk to cure before painting it. Silicone and acrylic latex caulk can take anywhere from one to 10 days to fully cure, and polyurethane may take 10 to 12 days to cure. You can paint over existing wallpaper if you select wallpaper that is designed to be paintable. This type of paper is meant to add texture to walls. You can paint over water-damaged drywall as long as it’s dry and there’s no active leak. However, painting over the area will not solve deeper problems like mold or water leaks. 

If you’re 100% positive that these two issues aren’t a concern, paint over the area with a water—or oil-based primer. This type of paint will ensure that it doesn’t simply seep into the spot.

If you’ve already installed your carpet and your baseboards need a fresh coat, painter’s tape can help ensure the paint stays on the wall and off the flooring. Be sure to add a margin of 2 to 3 inches of tape along the carpet to give yourself extra space for any unexpected spills or drips. You should also lay down a plastic tarp and secure it as close to the wall as possible with painter’s tape.

Paint sprayers come with a few disadvantages, with the most notable being the up-front cost. You’ll spend a few hundred dollars on a paint sprayer in most cases, while a roller and brushes will typically cost under $40. Sprayers also require more preparation to cover the areas you don’t want to paint, and they require more technique to get your paint applied without drips or bubbles from applying too much paint at once.
