"Thanks [Member name removed] glad we could serve you . I appreciate you hiring us for the work. Kevin Rutgers Painting."
They did not protect the furniture or the rooms from sanding dust! We had to have the room cleaned again. In the hallway, where a ladder was needed, the crew was standing on a 5-gallon spackling bucket. Not only unsafe, but highly unprofessional. More importantly, this type of work put us at risk of being sued in case of an accident. The owner was called and did arrive to inspect. His excuse was that his crew was coming in from doing outside work for the season and was rusty!!!! That is a poor excuse if I ever heard one. The company is clearly not very professional in its work and its crews are clearly not trained. For the price charged, there should have been no problems. They did not even offer to clean up the mess that they created or to have it cleaned for us. I would not recommend this company again nor would I use them again.
Things done right:
-constant clear communication from the home office
-honored warranty with no questions
Things done wrong by the contractor used for the job:
-painted house the wrong color
-did not use the paints specified in contract
-did not sand/scrape as specified in contract
-did not show up for warranty work
-when finished with warranty work, they left my front door wide open and did not let me know they were done. I live on a main street and this is incredibly unsafe
-did not return leftover paint
-dumped leftover paint in my garden, I had to remove tainted soil
-used garden hose to clean paintbrushes
UPDATE: 5-18-15
After meeting with Kevin and multiple Rutgers mangers, multiple phone calls and emails, I still have not had my front door painted without bubbles or cracks. Last year (Oct/Nov 2014) Kevin came by and took a paint sample from the middle of the door, instead of taking a non noticeable sample from the bottom of the door and the large white scraping hole is still there.
I was reached out to yet again by another customer service rep in March. I was told I would be among the first to have my issue resolved, and could I please explain the problem... again. It is now May and nothing.
I give up. I will find someone reputable to fix my front door. I would never recommend Rutgers.
"[Members Name], Thank you for feedback and I want to apologize for your experience that exact opposite of what we want to create. I am going to look into this today and see what went wrong it seems that our painters were very careless. Do you mind I contact you about this to see if there is anything else needed at this point? Kevin -Owner 973 760 9169"
The 2nd crew, led by Mario Monge, was excellent. They were very methodical and thorough and promptly took care of anything I brought to their attention. They did some challenging carpentry work and did a nice job on it. They corrected all the issues left behind by the first crew and went on to do a beautiful paint job.
Overall, I would recommend Mario Monge and his crew but not Rutgers.
"[member name removed], Thanks so much for taking the time to write. Glad we could serve you. it makes us really happy when people are pleased with our work ! Kevin (President)"
"Thanks for posting [member name removed]. I really enjoyed the project, your kids and renovating the house. Thanks for letting my son Phin come and check out the work that one day. I am excited you chose to go with Permanent Paint and not have to repaint your house for the next 20 years. I am excited to be able to offer this long term solution to my clients! I am here if you need anything feel free to reach out. [email protected]"
"I looked into our records and found that the manager responsible for your job left our company soon after your home was completed. I imagine you were reaching out to him directly, and perhaps that is why you did not receive a response. That is not what is supposed to happen, and is no excuse. I'm so sorry you didn't receive a response. I know how frustrating that can be! I know this was back in 2011, and you probably have already addressed the issues with the loose pergola and the front door paint....but, if you haven't, please let us know. Call our office (973-763-1670) and give us the opportunity to make it right. If you have any other issues, we'll come out and take a look. We have an office staff dedicated to making sure our customers, and any questions or issues they may have, are addressed quickly and effectively. Even so, it sounds like we dropped the ball with you! Give us a chance to make it up to you. We look forward to hearing from you. Regards, Eric Green Operations Manager"
"[member name removed], thanks so much for your comments. I really love your house its an original. Glad we were able to handle this complicated job. appreciate your business Kevin"
They have caused me a lot of aggravation and delayed the painting that I needed done months ago.
"We are in the business of painting and do not like to refuse any opportunity to work. However, sometimes the circumstances of the job or the expectations of the client force us to respectfully decline. I know this client was disappointed we would not perform the work they were looking for, however, I appreciate how reasonable and understanding they were when we discussed this in person. We wish them well in their search for a contractor better suited to their specific needs."
I have one slight grievance that I could have rectified with them in advance...They didn't use sanders with lead abatement vacuums attached. So, even though they tarped the house and vacuumed up after each day (again, not using the lead vacuums), and literally no dust got inside the house because of how well they sealed off the house, lots of the dust from my 70-year-old house escaped into the air and soil. MAKE SURE YOU'RE GETTING YOUR GROUND TARPED TOO, SEALED TO YOUR HOUSE, AND THAT THEY'RE USING VACUUMS WITH THE LEAD FILTERS. I'm not sure if they were breaking the law or not for an EXTERIOR, but I certainly would have insisted on them doing a better job on the lead if I knew they were going to do it the way they did.
"Thank you for your comments and concerns. Rutgers Painting is a certified lead renovator and follows all regulations regarding the disruption of surfaces that may have contained lead paint in the past. Please know that all of our crews use approved filtration in their vaccuums. Also, even with vaccuums attached to sanders and shavers, 50% of the dust still escapes and falls to the ground. That's why we seal your home and the area being sanded so tightly, so to capture the dust that is not taken in by the vacuum. A thourough and complete cleanup done by our trained crew makes sure everyone is safe and we're following the lead safe renovation laws. If you have any concerns about how your job was handled or just have any questions about lead safe renovation, give us a call! We would be happy to talk! 973-763-1670"
"I know we've been working with this member/customer for the last few months and weeks to address his concerns. Although the local health department official inspected the garage and declared the cleanup satisfactory, the client was still concerned and we did have an abatement team perform another cleanup at our cost. Rutgers Painting will go above and beyond the letter of the law to satisfy all of our clients, even those with the highest of expectations. We continue to work with this client now and will do so until we have completed every part of our agreement with him."
