"Nate was a pleasure to work with. His price for the job was quite reasonable, and the work site was left in good condition. Could have been been better communication about the process of getting the work completed but I'd definitely hire Nate again if I needed more demolition work."

"I have been searching for somewhere that is professional and won’t break the bank and thankfully I found this place! Everything was Hassle free for me. They came out for the estimate, honored it, and answered every question I had! Exemplary work! They did the job as promised and to our complete satisfaction. The workers are amazing, the management is very easy to deal with and again the price is very reasonable. I will definitely recommend this company to my relatives and friends."

"Fantastic service! I needed 3 rooms moved and stored so that floor refinishing work could be done. Originally I planned to rent a pod and have Careful Moves just move to the pod outside the house. They were able to quickly help formulate a new plan when the pod wouldn’t fit in our driveway. All of this was near thanksgiving and other projects. They were careful and professional and very accommodating! I would hire them again!"

Garbage Collection questions, answered by experts

As with many appliances, proper maintenance is key to maximizing your garbage disposal’s life span. If everyone in your household is on board with proper care and maintenance, like running water while operating the disposal, you should get plenty of years out of your unit. Avoid putting the wrong food items down the disposal, including pasta, rice, bread, and more.

Never put glass in the garbage disposal. It can damage your disposal or eject shards of glass out of the disposal and cause injury. If you get broken glass in your garbage disposal, turn it off and cut the power from the breaker, use a tool like pliers or tongs to remove the glass, and use a wet-dry vacuum to remove the remaining glass pieces. If you can’t access the disposal safely, call a garbage disposal repair pro.

The main issue with garbage disposals is clogging. This can mean a clogging of the pipes that expel the food along with water, or a clogging of the mechanical parts themselves. The problem lies in the solution because you can’t easily see clogs if they’re inside the system, and reaching in to dislodge stuck items is a risky proposal. Call a pro and ask what they would do, but if you can’t see the clog easily, and running the unit won’t free it, you need to let a professional handle the fix.

The most common garbage disposal size in the U.S. is 1/2 horsepower. This size is ideal for households with three or fewer people or those that don't produce much food waste. Although 1/2 horsepower can't handle the typical food waste load for a household of four (which is about 250 pounds of food waste annually) as effectively as 3/4 horsepower, it remains the most common size of garbage disposal on the market.

The two main negatives of garbage disposals are they are a safety hazard in homes with children, and they frequently encounter blockage issues. While they might be annoying to fix and monitor, garbage disposals can significantly lower your trash use and are a great way to dispose of organic waste. While there are negatives, the vast majority of homeowners acknowledge the positives are enough to install a disposal in their home.
