"Sean, who heads this company and does the work, did an excellent job in repairing my 50 yo Andersen double hung windows. He went out of his way to make sure the job was timely, complete and of highest quality. This is in contrast to other contractors who were only interested in replacing the windows with expensive new ones. I highly recommend this company with no reservations."

"All expectations met or exceeded for this project that included window and door replacement and soffit/gutter replacement. The window and door replacement team completed their work in a single day. Separate teams did the soffit and gutter replacement work on a following day, again all work done in a single day. Project teams started work on schedule and were highly professional throughout all phases of the job. Cleanup was excellent."

"Alan Mikol and his crew were first class from start to finish. Alan's knowledge of design and construction is vast and in depth. He has the education and the hands on experience to lead you through a complex process with ease. He is a perfectionist and has the same high expectations of his crew that he sends to your home. They are punctual and work straight through the day with no breaks, and he will not schedule a crew unless he can start and complete the job. The attention to detail in their artistry is excellent, even the mundane chore of daily cleanup is done with the same standards. It has been four years since they renovated our entryway, added a double closet, and gutted and re-designed our entire kitchen. We continue to enjoy the work they did and while he may quote on the higher end of the cost continuum, the design ideas, workmanship and professionalism is well worth any reservations you might have about the cost. We will not use anyone else for future projects!"

Window Door Contractors questions, answered by experts

If your door has interchangeable inserts, you’ll likely want to swap the glass out for a screen during the summer months. The process to do so will vary by door, but you’ll follow these general steps: First, use a flathead screwdriver to pop out the retainer strips—the plastic strips running down both long (and sometimes all four) sides of the door. Then gently pull them out by hand. Carefully remove the glass insert from the door and replace it with the screen. Finally, push the plastic retainer strips back into place, working from top to bottom.

Most window screens in residential homes are designed to be removed from the inside, especially with double-hung, single-hung, and casement styles. That said, some setups require exterior removal. Older homes or custom installs may have exterior clips or brackets, and sunscreens are almost always mounted on the outside. Before removing your window screen, look at how it is held in place.

If you’d rather repair your screen door mesh than replace it, you can patch it. Purchase a mesh patch for screen doors with small holes or tears, especially if the mesh is pretty new. Hardware stores and websites sell mesh patches that are easy to apply with an adhesive or a warm hair dryer. Keep in mind that repairs won’t look as aesthetically pleasing in most cases as a full replacement.

Whether you should repair or replace a screen door depends on the type and extent of the damage. It is easy and economical to repair a small tear in the mesh using a widely available DIY patch kit. However, if there are large tears, multiple damaged spots, or if the screen is made of a specialized material, replacing the entire screen mesh might be a better long-term investment for a tidier appearance. You should also consider the condition of the frame; if the frame itself is damaged, it's likely time to replace the entire door. Other factors to weigh include whether you want a new style or need a more durable door.

A garage door screen can be a worthwhile investment, especially if you frequently use your garage for activities like a home gym, workshop, or other hobbies. It allows you to enjoy fresh air and natural light without worrying about bugs. Additionally, a screen provides ventilation that can improve air quality when you're working with paints, varnishes, or producing sawdust.

The best option depends on your usage. For occasional use, a DIY fabric screen is a low-cost, simple solution that you can put up and take down as needed. If you plan to spend a lot of time in the space, investing in a customized, professionally installed garage door screen can help transform the area into a new hub for your household.
