"Mike (owner) and Kyle were very knowledgeable and hard working. In two days, they modified the venting in my attic and bathroom so it would work correctly and sprayed 13" of insulation in my attic. They were efficient, friendly, and professional. They left my house completely cleaned and explained everything that they had done. It was refreshing to work with a contractor that obviously has his customer's best interests at the top of his priority list. I would highly recommend Mike, Kyle and Bill Busters for any consulting and installation on insulating products."

"This company cares. They put people above profit. I was in a bad situation, after a nasty winter my roof seemed to be disintegrating before my eyes. It went really fast. Then Daryl stepped up to help me out of a difficult situation. Within hours they expedited the crew, and Walter and Lauren ordered materials and made my roof a priority. Now with three days of rain coming I know my house is protected and it looks gorgeous."

"The office staff was very good at scheduling and the estimation, prompt, efficient and great to deal with. The staff who had to come to do some prep work and the staff who did the insulating were on time and worked well until the job was completed. The price was also less than two other estimates. Over all, on every aspect of the job, we would give Mincin 5 STARS. Thank You."

"These guys are not only pros—they are true gutter artisans. After a decidedly frustrating experience with previous roofers, who were at best sloppy but in any case showed no pride in work, working with Ryan Hankey and Always Perfect Contracting has been a breath of fresh air. The work was a challenging replacement of a decayed and rotting box gutter on a circa 1850s historic home on a steep hillside with 36 stairs. There was no way to save the box gutter. Ryan and his team of Jeff and Dino worked long days in high heat and humidity to get the job done in two days. Not only did they replace the gutter, they remediated some of the sloppiness perpetrated by previous roofers at no extra cost. I got three bids on this project, and although Always Perfect Contracting was not the cheapest, the level of craftsmanship more than warranted the price differential. I cannot recommend these guys highly enough—7 stars (out of 5)."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

It's essential to use insulation materials specifically designed for air ducts. Common types of duct insulation materials include fiberglass, foam board, and reflective foil. These insulation materials have the right properties to withstand the temperature and airflow conditions within the ductwork. Using the appropriate insulation not only ensures efficient temperature control but also prevents potential safety hazards or the release of harmful particles into the air.

Structural insulated panels and rigid foam boards have the highest R-value of any insulation that contractors commonly use, with R-values reaching up to around 8.0. These types of insulation are best in extremely cold climates, but they’re generally preferred for new construction, as they can be challenging to retrofit. Blown-in and loose fill insulation provide the next best insulative value, provided the installation is done properly. It’s important to choose an insulation type that meets your needs based on climate, as maximizing R-value may not always be financially worthwhile if you live in a moderate climate.

Insulating windows without plastic is usually the better method. Outside of simply replacing your windows, you could buy cellular shades, which trap air between the window and the home, add a window film that blocks UV rays and traps heat, or cover your windows with a low-emissivity coating called “low-E.”

Yes, cold walls are a common indicator of poor or inadequate insulation, especially if the walls feel significantly colder than the air in the room. This suggests that heat from your furnace is escaping rather than being retained. The issue could be that the walls have no insulation, or that the existing insulation is old or has been damaged by water, moisture, or pests. Your best course of action is to hire a professional to investigate. An insulation contractor can determine if you need to add or replace insulation and can often perform the work without creating large holes in your drywall. If you suspect the problem might also be related to your heating system's performance, an HVAC technician can take a closer look.

If you have blown-in insulation, using an insulation vacuum will quickly and easily suck up all the insulation. Many come with built-in HEPA filters for added safety. While some people suggest breaking up large batts and feeding them into the vacuum, this can expose you to more fiberglass fibers. With batts and rolls, carefully removing them and placing them into garbage bags is a better process.
