As a licensed landscape architect, we approached this project with high standards and were looking for a contractor who offered fair, transparent pricing, excellent craftsmanship, and timely execution. Plymouth Meeting Nursery delivered on all counts. The scope of work was extensive and included the demolition of all existing landscaping, a deck, concrete walkways, fencing, and excess soil. In its place, the team installed new fencing, a beautiful cedar pergola, repointed brickwork on our home, irrigation, a synthetic lawn alongside fresh sod and thoughtfully selected plantings, outdoor lighting, a stunning bluestone patio with brick steps and retaining wall, a brick and bluestone fireplace, and a fully equipped outdoor kitchen featuring a grill, sink, ice maker, and refrigerator. "I recently had the pleasure of working with Erik from First State Ponds, and I can't recommend him enough. Erik traveled all the way from Delaware to Maryland to service my pond, which was having persistent issues with murky water. Before connecting with Erik, I had already been advised by another company to purchase a specific filter and pump. Thankfully, I found First State Ponds just in time. Erik took the time to explain that while the recommended filter might clear my water, it would require constant maintenance. He suggested a different filter and a stronger pump, but he was also willing to install the one I had already purchased if I preferred. After some consideration, I decided to take his advice and returned the original filter to have him install his recommended system. After struggling with murky water all summer, l admit, I was a bit skeptical. I wasn't sure that anything would truly work. But Erik's recommendation exceeded even his own predictions. Within just two days, the water was crystal clear! I didn't really think that was possible. There were a few challenges during installation and I admit this was 100% due to a few things I had set up prior to meeting Erik. But he handled them seamlessly, troubleshooting as needed. For the issues that couldn't be addressed that day, Erik provided me with helpful suggestions on how to finish the job myself. While I initially found the price a little high, after seeing the fantastic results, answering my many questions (including a few the following day), and delivering on everything he promised, I can confidently say he earned every cent. When we had some issues with the older less reliable lighting programing software, Drew upgraded us at the cost of the new hardware and did not charge us a cent for the labor involved. "We had a lot of work completed on our home (read: an expensive job). We had a paver walkway installed. We had some irrigation work (ran downspouts underground to run off points) completed. We expanded gardens that didn't previously have any foundation plantings by adding trees and shrubs, and changed the outdoor lighting. The team was quick to secure and complete the work, but the problem has been the follow up / remediation. The crew chief came out afterwards and noted soil settling where the irrigation work was completed, and that a tree and some shrubs were dying back. He talked about adding soil / seed because the settling was significant (obvious), and replacing plantings (trees / shrubs) that didn't fare well (tree trunk snapped by crew member and has been dying back since). I've contacted the crew chief who made the commitments, particularly since there is a warranty on plantings. Repeated calls and emails have not produced a result. So I strongly recommend avoiding this firm because they do not live to the commitments made."
