Customers say: True professional

"Jim and his son were prompt and meticulous. They installed butcher block countertops that I had purchased beforehand, along with glass tile backsplash in my kitchen. Additionally, they installed a new sink, garbage disposal, and gas cooktop, and all associated plumbing. Jim had great suggestions along the way, and overall it was a terrific experience."

Customers say: Quality work

"We absolutely loved JPK Contracting!!! They did an excellent job removing our old ceramic floor...with no sign of any dust or dirt in rest of our house...they used plastic sheeting to protect our furniture. Plus they moved all heavy appliances/furniture. They laid our vinyl/wood flooring and made adjustments so our floor was level! It looks beautiful! I will definitely refer my friends to JPK!"

"Zane and Kevin did an excellent job; from start to finish they were with us all the way with thoughtful design, solid recommendations and a strong work ethic. It’s clear there was a lot of care that went into this and the results really speak for themselves. Not only were they very professional but also personable. We will definitely be using them again for other remodeling jobs."

"We hired Jeff to demo our existing large, walk-in shower (including tile, walls and floor) and replace with all new materials and tile. He was methodical during demo and reconstruction, and kept all areas free of debris. The tile design we chose was intricate, and he approached the job with confidence and precision. Jeff was a great communicator and maintained a set schedule. We couldn't be happier with the result! The design is exactly what we'd envisioned, and we absolutely love our new shower. We highly recommend Jeff and look forward to working with him again someday."

Small jobs welcome

"Jeff is friendly and approachable, yet professional and polite. His work is high quality. I had a collapsed shower wall that had to be replaced, regrouted and caulked. Some of the tile was not usable, because the hot and cold water handles were changed from separate handles to a single one, and he went to great lengths to find the closest match possible. He also did not try to sell me a complete bathroom makeover, which was appreciated due to my financial situation."

"Jesse was the best I would recommend him and his company over and over again a million times. He was very professional, cleaned up afterwards, explained everything he was doing and never refused to come back if we need him at any time that works for us . He is the best the very best that Angi has."

"DeStefano Installations did a fantastic job tiling both my kitchen and bathroom floors. They were extremely professional, detail oriented, and explained everything to me step-by-step. I supplied the tiles and they provided me with the other materials (subfloor, grout, mortar, sealant, etc.) and their bid was extremely competitive. They worked with me and my schedule so that the work would be completed in a timely fashion and both rooms look amazing - I have already recommended Glenn to one of my friends and will certainly make more referrals. I am a happy customer."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

When working on your bathroom floor tiling, you should always tile the floor first and then refit the toilet afterward. This has both practical and visual advantages—the tile will have a better seal, and the installation will look cleaner.

On the other hand, when you try to cut the tiles to fit around the toilet, you’re putting yourself at a disadvantage. It’s a lot more work, it’s hard to be precise, and mistakes or miscalculations can lead to future moisture damage to the tiling, grout, and subfloor.

If the hearth ends against a wall, you can use a tile cutter as you normally would. However, if the edge of your hearth ends with no surface pressing against it,you may want to look into rounded tiles. These give a smooth edge to your hearth and make sure cut edges aren’t visible. You can also see if the tile you have has pieces that have been glazed or rounded on one edge. You’d then cut the tile and place it normally, with the cut edge facing inward.

Yes, it’s always a good idea to keep a box or two of spare tiles after a home renovation project. Tiles can crack from improper installation, heavy foot traffic, and impact from drops. Having some extra tile on hand can make replacement fast, easy, and affordable. Plus, some manufacturers might discontinue particular colors or styles, and slight variations in tile colors between batches could mean mismatched tiles even if your product isn’t discontinued. Having a few spare tiles in storage can help avoid these issues, as well.

Porcelain is a relatively affordable, mid-range countertop material. It typically costs between $50 to $70 per square foot.

Compared to quartz, porcelain is slightly more affordable, as quartz generally ranges from $50 to $200 per square foot. However, lower-quality, builder's grade quartz can be similar in price to porcelain.

Compared to granite, the price can be similar, depending on the quality of the stone. While granite slabs can range from $50 to $200 per square foot, you can find lower-end granite in the same price range as porcelain. High-end granites will cost significantly more.

Porcelain is generally more expensive than laminate, acrylic, and ceramic, but less expensive than high-end slate, concrete, and marble. A key benefit is that porcelain does not require sealing, which reduces long-term maintenance costs.

Yes, you can tile over existing shower tiles, but it's better to remove the old tiles first for the best results. Tiling over existing tiles requires a clean, level surface and proper adhesion. If the old tiles are in good condition, you can roughen the surface to improve adhesion. However, removing the old tiles ensures a smoother, longer-lasting finish and prevents potential issues down the line.
