At Baptiste Masonry we take great pride in every job we do like it was our own home. With 25 years experience I have seen a lot of beautiful work done by others and I have also seen a lot of not so good work. My goal for my customers is for them to be 100% satisfied and have a smile on their face when the work is complete. The job is not complete until that happens. In my years in the trade I have been fortunate enough to learn not just how to lay brick on a wall I have been part of some really great projects and really great people which I have learned a great deal and would love the opportunity to show my customers the great job I can do for them.

"We found this company by looking at all the positive reviewers online. Unfortunately we bought a house that the previous owners put an addition on themselves and they did not properly install the foundation. The walls were cracking and bowing. We got an estimate from a excavation company who wanted to remove ALL the basement walls, not just the 2 bad ones for 26k!!!! I don't know anyone who can afford that! We got an estimate from a masonry company who wanted 10k for one wall. Then, we met Jack from America's Basement Contractor. He demonstrated the utmost professionalism. He provided a quote which was very reasonable for Wall Anchors. We later received a call from Carl, the owner, stating he went over the estimate and we were quoted for more than we actually need to have done. I have never had an owner of a company contact us to provide this service! The work was completed today and it was determined an additional anchor was needed. The foreman called Carl and there was no additional charge for this. This is a family owned company. If they do not immediately answer, leave a message and they will return your call and you will be glad they did! I will recommend them to my friends and family. This company does not advertise because their work and professionalism speak for itself!"

"I would strongly recommend Kris Weaver and Baker's Waterproofing. Kris is extremely knowledgable about basement waterproofing, there's that. But he also did an excellent job of aligning scope and our budget. Baker's Waterproofing was highly recommended to us from friend and Kris exceeded all our expectations. He appears to be a top notch human being and we hired Baker's immediately. We are looking forward to getting started on the work and resolving our basement waterproofing issues."

"Erie Homes completed a basement waterproofing for us on 11/20/23. We were impressed and pleased by the professionalism and communication at every phase of the project. Brandon expertly explained the Erie Homes waterproofing system, sump pumps, materials, and warranty and provided us with a quote and pricing details. Having being burned by projects in the past, we came back with a long list of questions and conditions. Brandon answered every single one, made sure that we were completely satisfied with the terms, and added our notes to the contract. Project manager Gage and the team that came to our home was quick and professional. They periodically filled us in on the progress and communicated any changes or concerns. When the project was completed, they walked us through and made sure we were happy with the work before leaving. Since finishing, we have had several rainy weeks and a completely dry basement. Based on the product, work, and customer service, we will be highly recommending Erie Homes to anyone needing basement or waterproofing work."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Older Hermitage homes feature brick veneer over wood frames, which complicates masonry work because the metal wall ties corrode in the humid PA climate. Check your foundation type, as stone rubble requires different techniques than poured concrete. Sloped lots near the Shenango River demand special engineering for retaining walls. You must obtain a building permit for structural changes, especially if your home features additions or attached garages.

Helpful?

Horizontal cracks in block foundations indicate dangerous lateral soil pressure from the clay-heavy soil in Hermitage. Interior water stains near brick walls signal active leaks that rapidly worsen during freeze-thaw cycles. Flaking brick faces show internal freezing that destroys structural integrity. Treat any leaning chimney or deteriorating mortar near ground level as an urgent safety hazard. Address these warning signs immediately to prevent minor masonry work from becoming major structural failures.

Helpful?

Repairing existing structures is a better option than full replacement for masonry work, provided the underlying brick or block remains structurally sound. Finding matching salvage brick for older Hermitage homes is difficult and expands project scope. Concrete block foundations respond well to crack injection unless they bow significantly. However, severely damaged chimneys with failed flue liners require a complete rebuild to meet Pennsylvania safety and building codes.

Helpful?

Inspect your exterior in early spring to assess damage from Hermitage winters. Schedule masonry work between May and October when temperatures stay above 40 degrees for proper mortar curing. Look for mortar joints receding more than a quarter-inch below the brick face. Check your chimney for crumbling mortar, missing caps, or interior water stains after the heating season. Book contractors early to secure your spot before the busy summer rush.

Helpful?

Look for mismatched mortar color or texture, which signals improper materials that cause brick spalling. Reappearing white salt stains, or efflorescence, indicate unresolved moisture issues from the heavy precipitation in Pennsylvania. Stair-step cracks point to ongoing soil settlement in the Shenango Valley. Bulging brick veneer reveals failing wall ties, and deteriorated caulking at window transitions shows substandard prior masonry work. Address these issues promptly to prevent further structural damage.
