"Dana was prompt and professional after I called for a quote. He was at my house within a day. The price was reasonable and he even gave a military discount! I wanted one-stop shopping, including removal of my old oil boiler and tanks including 500 gallons of heating oil, and they answered the call after another company I talked to refused to dispose of my old equipment. The installation tech, Brian W. was the consummate professional by treating my home with respect and picking up after himself by taking all garbage with him every day! The Navien Boiler install is like a work of art hanging on the basement wall and i'll proudly show it off to family and friends. The two gentlemen that came to remove my old equipment laid tarps down to keep the floors clean and didn't scratch any walls while taking out the large and heavy tanks/boiler."

"Jim did a great job. He quickly assessed the problem and then took our unit with him to work on it more. When he got back to us, the fix would have cost more than it was worth. He gave us options for a new or refurbished PC. We felt the refurbished was a good deal and chose that. He came back and set that up and we are very happy with it. He then took a look at my laptop and again took it along. He tuned it up and installed a speed upgrade we wanted. Of course, we paid extra for the new unit and upgrades, but we thought the price was very fair. Jim seemed very knowledgeable and responsive. We will definitely call him again if we need any computer services."

"THEY INSTALLED THE FURNACE AND A/C IN ONE DAY'S TIME. WE WERE VERY SATISFIED WITH THEIR WORK WITH A FEW MINOR EXCEPTIONS. THE NEXT DAY THE OWNER HIMSELF RESPONDED TO MAKE THE CORRECTIONS TO OUR SATISFACTION. I THINK THEIR PRICES WERE VERY REASONABLE FOR THE HIGH END EQUIPMENT THAT WAS INSTALLED (TRANE)."

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

Yes. Boilers need water to run without overheating, also known as dry firing. If you run it without a sufficient volume of water, either because of a burst pipe or a leak, you run the risk of damaging your machine or jeopardizing the safety of your home as a whole. When in doubt, shut off your boiler and repair any plumbing issues before turning it back on. Alternatively, consider installing a low-water cutoff (LWCO) before any issues arise. This gadget will protect your boiler by monitoring water levels and automatically shutting it off if it gets too low.

Scale from hard water is hard to diagnose until it starts causing problems. If your area has particularly hard water, that’s most likely what your boiler is using. If scale build-up becomes a problem, it starts to cause decreased flow and heating, and eventually, valve failures as valves become blocked. Let boiler professionals know if you’re worried about scale and they can offer advice or implement a solution.

DIY is not recommended due to safety risks and technical expertise required. Hire licensed professionals.

Boilers are equipped with multiple safety features to ensure safe operation. These include pressure relief valves to prevent overpressure, temperature high-limit switches to avoid overheating, and flame failure safety devices in gas boilers to cut off the gas supply if the flame goes out unexpectedly. Low water cutoffs prevent operation with insufficient water levels, and pressure gauges help monitor pressure levels. Ventilation and flue systems prevent the buildup of harmful gasses. Boilers often feature error code systems for automatic shutdown during malfunctions and gas leak detection for safety. Regular maintenance is crucial to ensure these safety features function correctly.

A common HVAC rule is that for every 500 to 600 square feet of living space, you need 1 ton of heating or cooling capacity. Now that you know this common rule, you also need to know that it isn’t very accurate, and a dedicated pro wouldn’t use it for your home. If you talk to a pro who won’t or can’t perform a proper Manual J calculation, consider hiring someone more thorough.
