"It was nice working with Stonehouse Electric. It was a pretty big project as the entire house needed rewired. Being able to hit the "easy button" and have them come in and do everything took a lot off of my plate. On bigger projects, it is easy to have misunderstandings or changes along the way. Whenever this did happen, they were quick to step in and fix things and make it right at every turn. I would definitely do business with them again."

"Christian was very professional and his work was excellent! He was friendly and took the time to explain what he was doing and why he was doing it. He basically provided an introductory course in some basic electrical principles while providing quality service. The cost was very reasonable and my wife and I are both pleased and satisfied with the results. I will be recommending Kraken Electric to family and friends whenever they require the services of an electrician!"

"WB Lightning Rods did an excellent job installing lightening rods on our home. The owner stayed onsite the entire time to supervise the work. He took extra care to plan the rod and cable placement to ensure the proper protection and retain the aesthetics of our home. His crew were knowledgeable, polite, neat and efficient. "It is my pleasure to recommend the services of Doug Becker. We worked with him on various jobs over a ten-year time Frame from 2012-2022. He helped us with remodeling our home. Doug helped us build our outdoor shed, put in a new fence, built our children a wooden playground, added water and electricity to our backyard, built a sunroom, remodeled our kitchen, raised the ceiling in our living room, remodeled our bathroom. He Relocated our laundry room, built a deck, closed in the garage and made it into a bedroom, laid tile throughout our home, updated our home with new paint, updated our windows, built my children a loft bed, and helped update my garden beds. Throughout the projects, Doug Becker demonstrated construction knowledge and skill. I have no reservations about recommending Doug Becker for anyone looking for handyman or construction work."

"Zack was very good at installing a ceiling fan in our bedroom and fixing the light and fan switch in the other bedroom. He went and bought us a new fan at Lowe's and brought it back and installed it. He was personable and very easy to work with. I would highly recommend his work."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, wires are still hot, even if the light switch is off. The only way to ensure the wire is no longer live and that you can work with it safely is to open your circuit breaker, locate the breaker for the outlet you’re working with, and turn off the breaker for that outlet.

Yes, you can connect two extra outlets (or more) to one outlet if the total load on the circuit allows for it. If you have a 15-amp circuit, electrical code allows up to eight outlets or light switches. But if you’re dealing with outlets in the kitchen and bathroom, you may not be able to have as many. Kitchen and bathroom appliances often need higher amperage. You can also change a single outlet to a double outlet by cutting a larger hole in the drywall and replacing the outlet with a quad receptacle.

The copper wire used in knob and tube wiring systems can last up to 100 years. However, it’s considered a dangerous and outdated wiring method because the cloth, fabric, or rubber insulation sheathing can become brittle and fall apart. Knob and tube wiring systems should be inspected if you’re considering buying a home with this type of wiring, or if you have problems with frequently tripping breakers, a sign that you may need to replace them.

Electric bills tend to be lower in spring and fall because people use less electricity during these seasons. Milder temperatures allow for less use of heating and cooling, unlike during winter and summer, which usually bring more extreme temperatures.

Yes, it’s safe to strip a wire if you follow the proper safety precautions. First and foremost, you must always disconnect the power and never try stripping a live wire. Using wire strippers is another safety precaution, but don’t forget to keep your fingers away from the blade. It’s also critical you only remove the insulation and not accidentally cut into the conductor, which is unlikely as long as you’re using the right-sized wire stripper.
