"Colibri Construction is a hidden gem of a contractor. Abi was very professional in his communication and detail of his work. He was very knowledgeable which brought me comfort that my basement would turn out amazing and it was. The paint detail alone was impeccable as well as the placement of the flooring. I have had many contractors in my 25 years as a home owner and can honestly say I was the most satisfied with Colibri Construction. Abi kept me informed every step of the way to make sure I was happy with his process. He goes out of his way to make sure you save as much as possible on supplies and labor. He was the most honest and genuine person for the job. Calibri Construction is A ++++"

Customers say: True professional

"Zach and his crew provided an expert stucco job for our warehouse face lift. They were professional, friendly, and most importantly did a fantastic job with the stucco (and some odd patching around the side). The price was fair and the work is top notch. I recommend them."

"I needed stucco repair work on an old chimney (and other spots). Grady was meticulous and thoughtful on what approaches and materials would work. Throughout the project they allocated sufficient time for each treatment to cure and inspected the work before proceeding to the next step. Grady started the project with no money down and only required ongoing payments for materials until the project was well underway. The final payment was due only after they did a final inspection. Total project cost was also below other bids."

Stucco questions, answered by experts

To maintain stucco, inspect it annually for cracks and clean the surface with a mild detergent. Seal any cracks promptly to prevent water infiltration, and reseal or repaint as needed to preserve its appearance.

A standard drill will work just fine if you’re drilling small holes, and only a few of them. But anything with a diameter larger than 3/8 inch is best done with a hammer drill, since it is stronger, faster, and also makes your drill bits last longer. While you don’t absolutely need a hammer drill for stucco, it is a worthy investment if you think you might drill more holes down the road.

One of the most significant downsides to stucco is the installation cost, which is higher than that of many other siding options because getting it to look clean and professional is a labor-intensive process. Stucco can also absorb water, making it an unsuitable option for siding in areas that see excessive rainfall. Finally, stucco can crack and chip, especially in extreme weather, and repairs are not only challenging and require help from a professional who does stucco, but can get expensive.

Damage is often caused by moisture, impact, or settling. Regular maintenance prevents significant issues.

Stucco is very challenging to DIY, so it’s always best to leave the work to professional stucco contractors. The same recommendation applies to painting a stucco house, which should be left in the reliable hands of a professional exterior painter. Inexperienced DIYers can make several critical mistakes during stucco application, such as:

  • Failing to apply sufficiently thick layers for longevity and water resistance

  • Uneven application

  • Uneven texture across the exterior

  • Mixing the stucco improperly, leaving a weak structure

  • Failing to texture properly in between coats, leading to cracking and chipping
