"Rob was great. I do not live in the area and he was in constant communication about what I wanted and how much I wanted to spend. He would send pictures of floor options, vents, faucets, sinks etc and prices. If I wanted something different, he was flexible and would discuss any issues there may be. I also would go look at bathroom supplies and send him my thoughts. We met up and went over what I wanted and then he was on his own. He is a one-man operation so if very busy and the people in the house said he was very conscientious. He also fixed the dining room ceiling and that looks great."

"Kevin was on time. He started to prepare my ceiling for repair plastering. Beside the crack I also had water stains & my swirls were gone! He covered my hanging lamp & put plastic & tape to protect the walls and surrounding area. When completed, my ceiling looked beautiful. You would never guess I had any problems in that area. He even swirled that area so it would blend in with the rest of my ceiling. Iâ m very satisfied with the results. When done, he vacuumed & wiped my floor on his hands & knees & cleaned everything up! I would not hesitate to hire PatchMaster again. I highly recommend them!"

I thought fit was a leak in the pipes. However, the toilet upstairs was leaking, which caused water to run down into the kitchen that made the ceiling leak. They were able to open up the ceiling, find the problem, and fixed the problem in such expediate timing. The work was excellent, and I would hire them from here on to fix any problem that I would have in the household.

Popcorn Ceilings questions, answered by experts

As stylish new design options become more popular, modern drop ceiling designs also include metal tiles of tin and copper, which can create a dark, moody atmosphere in your basement bar, home theater, or game room. There are also a variety of modern lighting ideas for drop ceilings, including recessed and surface mount lights.

Yes, you can cover a popcorn ceiling, which is often more cost-effective and easier than scraping it off. Common methods include using ceiling-grade drywall, applying a skim coat, or installing beadboard panels to create a smooth, updated finish. Covering the ceiling can also protect you from asbestos exposure if the material contains it. However, it's important to note that this method only seals off the asbestos and does not eliminate it, which could be a concern for future renovations or home resale. If you suspect your ceiling contains asbestos, it's best to hire a local asbestos abatement company to test the material and manage its safe removal.

Textured walls are a great way to hide imperfections left over by drywall installation, but many homeowners feel like it’s an outdated look, despite there being so many types of drywall texture. And while the textured walls of today are a far cry from the popcorn ceilings and faux stucco of our grandmother’s homes, if you want a more modern look or you want to install wallpaper, it’s time to smooth out your walls.

The timeline varies from a few hours to two days, depending on room size, texture complexity, and removal difficulty.

Popcorn ceilings have fallen out of popularity for several reasons, though opinions on them can vary. The primary drawbacks include an outdated appearance, difficulty with cleaning and maintenance, and potential health risks, as ceilings installed before the 1990s may contain asbestos. As design trends have shifted toward sleeker, more modern finishes, many homeowners now prefer smooth ceilings for their clean look and easier upkeep. However, popcorn ceilings do offer some benefits, such as excellent acoustic properties for noise reduction and the ability to hide imperfections. Some also appreciate their retro charm or find them to be a cost-effective solution. Ultimately, whether they are "bad" depends on personal preference, safety concerns, and aesthetic goals.
