"While it was nice they had a cancelation and came out quick, Communication was terrible, Job felt half assed, cleanup was poor. 1st scheduled time to come out was a no show. No english spoken by workers so couldn't communicate concerns. Was told driveway joints were going to be tar sealed and it was on the quote but after calling back was told I would recieve a call back and never did. Chunks of asphalt, rocks, and trash were also left in my yard. Regrading could have been better. Especially around the foundation. Overpriced for the quality they delivered."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

The plants that grow well on a hog wire fence are any type of climbing or vining plant. This includes garden crops such as green beans, squash, and potatoes as well as jasmine and ivy. Compared to other farm fencing costs, hog wire comes at an affordable price and makes a great trellis if you plant climbing vines along the base of the fence.

Determining the best type of fence to contain your pet can be tricky. Consult a pet fence installer and consider the following questions:

  • What size pet do you have? Some fence types, like chain link, are too short to contain large dogs.

  • Is digging an issue? Some fences, like brick or stone, help minimize digging at the fence line, where wood fences aren’t as adequate.

  • Do you need to block your pet’s view of the neighbor's yard? Some fences, like metal iron fencing and chain link, don’t offer an obstructed view.

The distance between fence posts depends on the type of fence you’re installing. Wood and metal fence posts should be between 5 feet and 8 feet apart. Chain-link fence posts can be closer together at 4 feet apart, or the spacing can be up to 10 feet apart. Vinyl fence posts can be between 6 feet and 8 feet apart, and wire fence posts can be up to 12 feet apart.

You can't build a fence against your neighbor's fence if it touches or is attached to it unless you get explicit permission from your neighbor. Most municipalities recommend building a fence about two feet away from your neighbor's fence to allow access for fence repair and mowing.

The standard height for a split rail fence is three or four feet. This height requires two to three horizontal rails, making it ideal for homeowners wanting a budget-friendly split rail fence. If you’re hoping to contain agile livestock or animals like dogs, geese, or goats, you may prefer to install a six-foot tall fence with four or five rails or a four-foot-tall fence with three horizontal rails. This will help prevent animals from climbing, crawling, or jumping through the rails.
