"1st application done. Waiting for other 6 pre-paid treatments and pest control spraying of the outside perimeter. If you want fast service don't call. It took over a week of calling too finally speak to someone. They were quick too leave me a written quote, but slow responding. She said they are a small business of only 5 employees and I could probably get a better deal with a larger company. I wasn't happy with my larger lawn care company and wanted a smaller more family type. I hope the rest of the season's treatments go well. Sorry can't say more since they have only performed 1st application to this date."

Water the lawn thoroughly, apply fertilizer, and overseed if necessary to promote healthy growth.

In the fall, you should aerate the soil, overseed the bare spots, kill weeds, mow the lawn low, and rake your leaves. By boosting your lawn’s health in the fall, your grass will be stronger throughout the winter and come back healthier in the spring. You should also trim your perennials so that they withstand the winter and are ready for new growth in the spring. 

To prepare your lawn for core aeration, water it the day before you aerate. (Alternatively, you can wait until it rains and aerate the following day.) Aerating after watering or a rainy day will make the process easier since you can penetrate moist soil better than dry soil. You should also flag your sprinklers so that you don’t accidentally hit them while aerating. If you have a lot of thatch buildup in your yard, you might need to dethatch your lawn before aerating as well.

While dethatching first often makes the aeration process faster and easier, both actions can be done on the same day. Aeration can also loosen up the thatch, even if you have a harder time aerating the soil because the thatch got too thick. Because both dethatching and aeration have the common goal of making it easier for the soil to get water and nutrients, it’s safe and possible to do both at the same time.

St. Augustine is a hardy grass that’s relatively easy to grow, but it requires regular lawn maintenance to stay healthy. It’s best to keep up with a regular fertilization schedule during the growing season, plus a yearly dethatching to help it properly absorb air and moisture. Watering is also important, so be sure to water it enough to keep the soil moist.
