"Ross was a pleasure to work with during a large exterior painting project on my house. He provided a detailed contract as to what was to be done, which was helpful for both of us. The job involved painting multiple surfaces including aluminum siding and sofffits, steel window frames, stucco and wood, and he was knowledgeable about how to paint each surface. The painting was neatly done, and he cleaned up thoroughly at the end of each day. When I pointed out issues, he was quick to correct them. When contacted by text during while off the job, he was quick to reply making our communication easy. I would not hesitate to recommend him to others or hire him for another job."

"We have used Hutton Painting for several projects. Each time the experience has been exceptional. Shane and Cole keep in touch throughout the process. The crews arrive on time and work the whole day - do not disappear for hours on end. They spent a lot of time prepping the deck sanding by hand as well as hand taping each metal spindle on the deck! The result is beautiful. The stain is even and looks great. I would highly recommend this company."

"The contractor Johnny was willing to discuss the project and products with me in detail. He was punctual and committed to getting my deck cleaned and stained even though the weather was not cooperative. Our deck looks really nice!"

"

I was impressed with the quality of work performed by Robert's crew.
My front steps had a broken corner and were stained with rust. Tony Baker was the lead and did a fine job of repairing the concrete and matching the color of the resurfacing material to the house. The steps look great.

I had several damaged areas with the exterior stucco on my house caused by a water intrusion issue . Tony modified the the roof run-off to help mitigate future problems. The damaged stucco and wood trim was replaced and painted. The color was matched perfectly. Another job well done.
All work areas were cleaned up.
I would certainly hire this crew again.

"It went great. First they came in moved my furniture and covered it. Then they started by patching all nail holes and Knicks in the walls me chalked in the trim On the door jams then they started painting the ceiling once they were done with the ceilings ,they started painting they walls. Couldn't be more happy with the quality of work they did. They very professional always on time and explained to me every every step of the job. When they did the stain on my front porch they came the first day they power wash the area they were to stain. Gave the wood a few days to dry out they came back and stained the porch. "Gary came to the house to inspect the porch and cellar well. He took the time to answer questions and explain his plan to make the necessary repairs. He provided an estimate the same day. Joe (supervisor) and his work crew were easy to work with. Joe kept me updated and answered questions as the work progressed. When they close to finishing the work, Joe walked me through all the repairs made and sealed some additional areas at my request. In general, the project was pleasant from estimate to finished product."

"After realizing my past landscaper wasn't as great as I thought, I hired Jeff after seeing him work on a neighbor's yard. I've waited to submit so I could see how the plants took off and to see how some of his suggestions turned out. Unlike the last company, Jeff didn't pretend to listen to me; he gave me ideas and then gave me time to research them; he didn't push me into doing what he wanted but between what I wanted and his expertise, it all came together beautifully. My husband and I are thrilled with the results and have enjoyed our view from the start. Jeff and his crew arrived on time and they didn't stand around chatting----they got right to work; put a full day in; cleaned up; you can tell that Jeff really cares about what he does. I feel confident that I have finally found the landscape company worth sticking with!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Staining pressure-treated wood is a recommended practice. While inherently resilient, it's not impervious to moisture and UV exposure. Staining treated wood is feasible and recommended for enhanced protection and longevity. Applying stain and sealant safeguards against degradation, prolonging its life span. These measures shield the wood from environmental threats while augmenting its aesthetic appeal, ensuring your investment endures the test of time.

The need for a topcoat on a painted deck depends on various factors, primarily the type of paint used and your desired level of protection. Many premium deck paint formulations are self-sealing, eliminating the necessity for an additional topcoat. These paints often have built-in additives that substantially protect against moisture, UV rays, and everyday wear and tear.

A wood deck requires annual cleaning and regular inspections for loose or broken boards, nails, and screws. It should be refinished by applying a stain or sealer every two to three years to protect the wood from water damage, rot, mildew, and sun fading. The exact frequency can depend on the climate and the deck's exposure to sun and moisture. If your deck is painted, it will need repainting approximately every 10 years. Signs that your deck needs refinishing include faded, splintering, or warping boards.

The best time to paint your deck is when temperatures are neither too cold (below 60 degrees) nor too hot (above 85 degrees). Always paint your deck when there’s no risk of rain. For fast-drying paint like acrylic or latex, ensure your deck can dry for at least four hours. Oil-based paints take longer to dry and may require 48 hours to completely cure.

Choosing whether your deck should be lighter or darker than your house is a matter of personal preference, as there is no right or wrong answer. However, considering the pros and cons of each can help guide your decision. Darker colors are often chosen because they show less dirt, footprints, and marks from daily wear, making them easier to keep clean. On the other hand, lighter deck colors tend to stay cooler in the summer. From a design perspective, using a deck color that contrasts with your home's exterior can help make the deck a more defined and distinct feature. Consulting color theory can also make the process of choosing a complementary house and deck color combination easier.
