"We had a flood in our basement and following an interior drain installation, we needed to have new padding laid down and our carpet re-stretched into place. This was not a big job which can make it hard to find somebody to do it, but Bob came to give me an estimate not long after I called him. They were here within a week to do the work and did a great job. They had to work really hard to stretch the carpet because it had shrunk after being wet, but they were able to make it work. And then they came back shortly afterwards to do the final cleaning. I really appreciated that they were willing to do this small job and get it done so quickly. I highly recommend calling Riverview for any similar issues."

"The project was to stretch and refasten a bedroom carpet. Wagner was polite and wasted no time. We discussed the work to be done and they proceeded immediately. My wife and I moved all the small items from the room and removed drawers. They called and said they were going to be late because of job over run. I paid extra for them to move the furniture . I thought they would take it out of the room. They left all but one piece of furniture in the room while they stretched the carpet. The job was done satisfactorily, some stapling had to be done by a doorway and it shows. They installed new tack strips also. They cleaned up and ran a shop vac to remove any debris. I would use them again."

"This company was the only one of 3 considered that did an on-site estimate for the job. They were professional and courteous and did a great job. The only problem we had was that the initial written estimate included haul away of the old carpet and padding, but the final proposal did not include haul away. My husband was not aware of this so he had to drag the carpet and padding to the trash. This may have been a problem for an elderly couple. If the written proposal was sent via email as they stated (but didn't send) we could have reviewed and ensured whether the haul away was included."

"Looks fantastic!! Last week, Carlos met with me we discussed stretching my carpet, he gave me a quote a we set up an appointment. Today his crew came and restreched our living room and dining carpet. They were very polite, went right to work; cleaned up as they went. Any pieces that were cut off were immediately bagged. They moved the larger pieces of furniture and put everything back when they were done. I highly recommend Carol’s company!! Charlie’s Carpets."

Carpet Stretching questions, answered by experts

The life span of carpet in a home with children and animals depends on factors like the carpet material’s quality, how frequently you clean and maintain it, and the level of foot traffic. On average, carpets need to be replaced every five to 15 years. Signs of wear, matting, or persistent odors may indicate that it's time to contact a local flooring company to replace your carpet.

Yes, you can revive carpet that’s flattened using household items like an ice cube and stiff brush, a damp cloth and an iron, baking soda and vinegar, and shaving cream. If you want to go all-out, visit a local home improvement store and buy a carpet rake, too. Depending on the state of your carpet, you may need to use more than one of these methods to see results. Keep in mind that you might need to repeat a reviving method more than once.

Hiring a pro to stretch a carpet costs anywhere from $100 to $300, though this price increases if you also task the contractor to remove and replace the furniture from the room. Doing it on your own maxes out at $100, though renting the power stretcher and knee kicker extend the cost in some instances.

No, it works best under synthetic carpets in high-traffic or moisture-prone areas. Avoid using moisture barrier padding under natural fiber carpets like wool, which need air circulation. The barrier can trap the moisture against natural fibers and cause problems. Also, you can skip it in low-risk areas like upstairs guest bedrooms, where the extra protection often isn't worth the added cost.

Yes, carpeted stairs are generally considered safer than stairs with hard surfaces like wood, vinyl, or tile. Carpet provides more traction and friction, which helps reduce the chances of slips and falls. Additionally, if a fall does occur, carpet offers more cushioning, which can lessen the severity of an injury. While hard surfaces can look great, they are often more slippery. However, it's worth noting that some carpets, especially if they are new, dirty, or have a slick texture, can also pose a slipping hazard. To improve safety on any type of stair surface, you can add traction treads to increase grip.
