"I met with the owner Gramoz and he was very thorough- giving me several options for my exterior whole house pint. They did all the clearing, power washing and prep, kept to the schedule and worked efficiently until done. They did and absolutely amazing job- incredible, communicative and professional."

"We would highly recommend R Jones Painting to anyone. They painted all of our houses in November 2022. They did a fabulous job and were very friendly, and professional. They provided us with a complimentary color consultation with a color expert who helped us pick paint for all of the rooms. The consultant was great, professional, knowledgeable, and also very friendly. Apart from being very thorough painting, they did extra things that they did not charge us for they fixed a tube that was loose on the washing machine when they painted the laundry room, they fixed a loose railing, and a French door that was scraping the floor in one of the rooms. They also painted our front door at no additional cost. We have three young children who managed to get the walls dirty after they were already painted while the Hugos team was still there. They fixed all of them at no extra cost. Our son had Pokemon stickers all over the walls in his room. It was a lot to take down so we told them not to worry about trying to save them, and that they could just take them down and throw them away. After they were done with his room we noticed that they removed all the stickers, and placed them neatly on our sons bed frame. They helped us move the furniture and made sure nothing got damaged in the process. Apart from painting all the rooms they also painted built-ins in the living room and they turned out beautifully. They came early every morning and worked hard all day. Hugo was at the site every day supervising and working with the crew. He was extremely helpful, knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. He provided us with valuable advice, for example on how the ceiling in the foyer should be painted. He was always eager to address any questions and concerns and always asked for our opinion. He also told us how to store the leftover paint to prolong its life. They completed the work on time, within the time frame they provided us before they started, without sacrificing the quality of their work. When they left our children kept asking when the nice painters are coming back and were devastated to learn that they were done. We highly recommend R Jones Painting, and will only be using them for future projects - they are the best!"

"Kathy and her team did a wonderful job on my home. She was able to advise on different colors and types of paint to be used. There were many holes in the wall and areas that needed to be repaired before the painting. They did a wonderful job and I'm very pleased with the result. They were flexible with me in terms of timing and cleaned up thoroughly after the job was done. I would definitely use them again and was very pleased with the final result."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Yes, beginners can use a paint sprayer, but there is a learning curve. It's important to go slowly, read the instructions thoroughly, and spend some time learning the technique. Watching tutorial videos for your specific paint sprayer model can be very helpful. Before starting your main project, practice on a scrap surface to get used to the sprayer and avoid common issues like overspraying, which can cause drips, bubbles, and other imperfections. For safety, always wear a mask and gloves, and be careful not to touch the sprayer's tip when it's in use, particularly with high-powered airless sprayers.

Staining or sealing a cedar deck or fence is highly recommended to extend its lifespan and protect it from the elements. While cedar is naturally resistant to mold and mildew, it is not impervious to damage from moisture, sun exposure, splintering, fading, and rot over time. Applying a protective finish creates a shield that preserves the wood's strength and appearance, potentially extending its life by five to 10 years.

When choosing a finish, it's helpful to understand the difference between a sealer and a stain. A sealer sits on top of the wood, whereas a combination stain and sealer soaks into the top layer. Because it penetrates the wood, a stain generally offers better protection against UV damage and rot and lasts significantly longer. For the best results that also preserve the wood's natural color, consider using a near-translucent stain.

To maintain protection, plan on reapplying the stain or sealer every two to three years, either as a DIY project or by hiring a professional.

An exterior paint job typically lasts between 5 and 10 years, though this can range from 3 to 17 years depending on several factors. The longevity is influenced by the quality of the paint and primer, the quality of the application, the local climate, and the type of surface being painted. For example, paint on wood siding may need to be redone every 3 to 7 years, while painted brick can last up to 17 years. Aluminum siding often needs repainting every 5 years.

Whether you can paint over your existing paint depends on what’s on there. Most of the time, you’ll want to sand down or scrape off the paint that’s currently coating your surface. Epoxy paint, for example, won’t let new paint stick to the surface. Latex paint is more forgiving and will accept a new coat, but a primer is recommended if you’re switching colors.

Adding a second coat of stain to wood can even out the color to some extent, but it won't drastically alter the hue if the initial application is too light or too dark. It's more effective at enhancing the richness of the color rather than significantly changing it. Ensure the first coat is dry before applying the second.
