"Jim Noll repaired ceiling drywall from an exhaust fan installation from another company, and a few minor holes on a wall. Prior to the job Jim walked through the house with me and told me exactly what he would have to do to get the job done. He called a few days later with a quote and a start date. On the day of repair Jim arrived when he said he would. When finished he walked me though everything he had done and asked if I was satisfied. You would not know that Jim was here as he cleaned up to perfection! I highly recommend Jim Noll and would definitely hire him again."

Small jobs welcome

"Craig Cherry was hired to install 2 storm/screen doors of my choosing. He also added a task lighting fixture in my basement and hard-wired some other lighting that was only hooked to extensions. He brought his young (20-something) nephew. Both men were consistently polite and were people you felt comfortable bringing into your home for a day. The above-mentioned jobs were completed well short of a days' work, and also included repair to a small section of drywall paper. They cleaned up after themselves before they left. Craig also hauled away quite a bit of accumulated stuff like broken lamps, broken mops, a printer, and even a large treadmill that no longer worked. He charitably did this for no extra charge--I'm not quite sure why! I can only guess how much a trash hauler would have charged to drag all that out of my basement. Being a homeowner, I'm sure there will be other projects that need doing before too long. My first choice of handymen will be Cherry's."

"Had to file a claim for new clothes dryer, and repairs on fridge. Foothills Star Appliance came to look at both. Eric was the repairman. He was friendly, answered all my questions, and very professional. I would highly recommend his company."

Curt is one of the few guys I would trust to help me with any of my own personal projects. He has a extreme talent and a precision skill set for laying ceramic tile, he does great drywall work and any type of finish carpentry. He is capable of just about anything and he always finds a way, despite any setbacks, to get the job done. I would highly recommend Curt and his helpers for any of your needs of a Handyman!"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

It doesn’t matter which way you lay drywall, and you can choose to install it horizontally or vertically depending on the size of the wall and how tall the ceiling is. It’s easier to lay drywall sheets vertically if you have a taller ceiling, but laying sheets horizontally makes it easier to apply joint compound.

Look for flaking paint or air bubbles that burst and then flake away. Paint will begin to flake after being exposed to minimal moisture or water, so it’s a good indicator of any water damage. If you notice your paint starting to flake, feel the plaster underneath to see if it is soft or damp.

While fumigation chemicals cannot pass through solid objects, they will seep into any openings in walls, doors, or other closed spaces. This allows them to get into tight places where pests may be hiding and causing damage, like termites ruining the foundation of your home. It also means that your home needs to ventilate for 48 hours before returning to ensure that no harmful chemicals remain in your space.

A common cause of separation between a wall and the ceiling is truss lift—this can happen to the ceiling of rooms directly under the attic when the seasons change and wood building materials dry out, shrink, and shift. Roof trusses often dry out at different speeds, and if the bottom pieces dry out faster than the top pieces, they can shrink and pull the attached drywall away from ceilings and walls, causing cracks. Fortunately, truss lift is only a cosmetic problem, not a structural problem, and you can fix it by separating the ceiling drywall from the roof trusses, and patching the cracks.

While it’s most common to sand plaster dry, it is possible to wet-sand plaster, too. Doing so can reduce the amount of plaster dust released into the air and make it easier to work in smaller, more delicate areas (such as around wall trim). However, some people find that wet sanding leads to more imperfections, which is why larger walls are more often dry sanded to ensure an even finish.
