Whether tree roots will regrow after the tree has been cut down depends on the species. It’s usually best to transplant a tree when it’s dormant. For some, the best option is transplanting during fall after the leaves have fallen—October or November. In other cases, it’s best to transplant before new growth begins in the spring, often around March. But avoid transplanting during winter because the soil is harder and colder, and the tree won’t have the same chance to acclimate. 

Aim to have your trees inspected and pruned in early spring. At this point in the year, tree service professionals can note where there is old growth from winter and cut that back to encourage new growth for the rest of the year. Pruning at the wrong time of the year could make your trees prone to diseases.
