"The results are awesome! Nick does great quality work and was able to come out quickly to get it done! He went above and beyond with cleaning our roof and gutters and was knowledgeable about the process for removing the moss growth."

Small jobs welcome

"Carson has done many jobs for us, including gutter guard installment, painting a gazebo and staining our fence. He always arrives early, does an excellent job, is very professional, and great customer service. We highly recommend him."

"Rocket Construction replaced our shaker roof with a composite roof. We met with Matt and went through all of our choices and once we were ready to move forward they got us on the schedule. The crew that he sent to do the work was so friendly and hard working. We enjoyed chatting a bit with them each day. They worked diligently each day and got the job done quickly. They arrived promptly each morning and picked up each evening before heading out. Matt came by the day after everything was finished up to check the work himself and to see if we had any questions or concerns and to be sure we were satisfied. He is a genuinely nice guy who cares about his customer service. We would highly recommend them to others, and in fact already have!

"Truly one of the most professional and hard-working contractors I have seen. They have been very thorough with the job, the preparation to paint on our old house that has been needing a new coat of paint for a long time has been extensive and most certainly not haphazard. There are so many different places where the wood has rotted out and they continue to take that all out and replace where needed like a professional job should be done. I have seen many contractors brush these types of things over due to the extra amount of work it takes, but that is not these guys. This company will make sure a job is done right! On a personal note, I also have a baby I need to put down for a nap each day, and they have been so understanding to work on the other side of the house and keep quiet until my baby wakes up. HUGE thank you to this company and their skill, professionalism, and positive attitudes."

"Beautiful paint job! I was completely happy with this project. I had the interior of my home painted from the ceiling to the base, and it is perfection. Much Better than the professional existing paint job. This paint team is talented! Their crew also installed base boards, carpet and crown molding. It's awesome work. The base and carpet is cut perfectly, and the crown molding install is excellent and elevates the look of my living room. It's beautiful. They have a great team, the crew works very hard. I had a great experience with Infinity, Derusha is awesome. I recommend hiring them"

"Chuck--the owner of Colortek--does an excellent job. He is energetic so he gets the work done fast, but is also extremely professional making sure everything is covered with drop cloths and he cleans up after himself. He's done tricky interior varnish work that has come out beautifully, as well as exterior painting that still looks new 7 years later. I'd recommend Chuck and Colortek to anyone."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

DIY staining or painting is manageable with proper preparation, including safety measures, necessary tools, and adherence to safe weather conditions for application.

It is not always necessary to remove old stain before restaining a deck. If the previous stain is in good condition and is compatible with the new stain, you may be able to apply a new coat after thorough cleaning. However, if the old stain is in bad condition, flaking, or peeling, it is best to remove it completely to ensure an even surface and proper adhesion for the new coat. Staining over a damaged layer can lead to an uneven finish and poor penetration. For best results, test a small area first and consult the stain manufacturer's guidelines.

Whether to brush or roll stain on wood depends on the project and your preference. Brushing is ideal for smaller, intricate areas and offers more control over the application, ensuring thorough coverage and penetration into the wood's grain.

Conversely, rolling is efficient for more extensive, flat surfaces and can save time. However, it is not always the best fit for textured or uneven wood. Some projects may benefit from combining both methods, using a brush for detail work and a roller for broader areas. Ultimately, the choice between brushing and rolling depends on the specific requirements of your staining project.

Wood stains last anywhere from two to five years, depending on exposure to the elements, your local climate, the type of stain, and the surface it’s on. For instance, vertical surfaces last longer than horizontal surfaces. Some types of woods, like dense hardwoods, will require a recoat yearly, as they are too dense for the stain to absorb. In any event, apply a recoat every 2 to 4 years. As for storage, a can of unopened stain can last up to 5 years, though results may vary.

Wet-sanding and dry-sanding each have pros and cons. Dry-sanding is less messy, so it’s a good option if you’re trying to minimize dust (for example, if you’re sanding an occupied home or working with particularly dry or dusty drywall mud). However, dry-sanding is quicker because you don’t have to keep rinsing a sponge or wait for it to dry before painting.
