The process was long, mostly because of working with the city building codes and trying to make our project achieve our goals of aesthetics and usability. We discovered that due to our homes footprint on the property, we had some severe limits to work under. An existing carport was not permitted & had to be removed, requiring a change in rain gutters. It was really important to us that the stair blend into the existing home & be very durable and safe. The existing balcony had slate tile, steel rails and some wood siding, the backyard had exposed aggregate concrete. Jacob was able to design a beautiful staircase that continued the steel railing down into a landing of exposed aggregate concrete. The stair treads are stone that blend with the slate, but are more durable, and the whole thing is nestled down into the landscaping. They also removed pavers and re-located stone to change the backyard landscaping into a more usable space. We added a lighting to make the space usable in the evenings, and sprinklers and lawn to the backyard. Between tile, landscape, steel, electrical, and rain gutters, there were many sub-contractors on this project. Jacob managed them all wonderfully, we had no problem with anyone on the work-site at all. There was a tremendous amount of custom design work to accomplish our goals, but the end result is awesome and exactly what we wanted.
