Build Forward Construction

We were very happy with the work team that was assigned to our project. They kept us informed with the progress of the project at all times, and answered all our questions to our satisfaction. The design team understood the level of cost we wanted and worked very hard to find the products to satisfy us and stay within the budget. we had. If there were any unexpected changes due to the tear down and surprises behind the dry wall, they were discussed and handled very professional. We were warned ahead of time it might happen so left room in budget to accommodate the extra expense. The results were wonderful, now we have an updated home and a very lovely and workable kitchen which is a pleasure to work in. If we needed a contractor in the future for any other project we would call Build Forward Construction immediately.

At the end of the day we love our new kitchen but we felt the entire project could have been managed so much better than our experience. Here are some specific issues we encoutnered.... Time - The duration was quoted at 6 weeks which seemed unrealistic so in my head I estimated 8-10 week at worst. When all was said and done the remodel ended up taking 5 months. 2 months of that time was without running water because the project manager did not allow enough time to request a plumber. Electrical - I was very concerned with the electrical work since our house is quite old. The owner said he thought his team could manage the electrical work but I was still concerned and asked that they also arrange for a professional electrician to come in to provide a quote and to have as a back up if needed. My advice was ignored so in short we ended up having to wait 3 weeks to get the electrical work done. Cabinets - The cabinets were staged in the empty kitchen while we waited for the electrical work. Not one person thought to check the cabinets against what was ordered to ensure everything was correct. When it was finally time for the cabinets to be installed I noticed 3 of them were not what we had picked out in the showroom and we had to wait another few weeks to get the correct cabinets in. I was beyond frustrated at this point. Counters/Sink - Finally after 2 month without running water the countertop contractors were ready to install. The project manager was there to oversea everything and was very proud of the work. When I came home to see them I found a hideous seam in the Formica. In fact the Formica was supposed to be preformed but instead was the old school Formica with the square cut edges from the 80's. The project manager told me he didn't understand what the issue was so I had to go back to the owner. We had to wait another 2 months for them to reorder the materials and replace the countertops and even then it was not exactly what we picked out but we were willing to take a discount to just be done with the project. 2 weeks after the remodel was "finished" the countertops started to peel up. I tried contacting the owner many times but requests were ignored until I threatened to call on their bond. Finally the owner agreed to fix the mistake but we had to wait another month to have them repaired. Then another 2 weeks to have his team come out and re-caulk the sink. Staff - Half the staff quit in the middle of the remodel which further delayed the project. And there seemed to be no urgency at all. Sometimes the crew would come work for just 1 hr a day. Finally I had to start providing a targeted list of what I expected to be completed each day. The project managers, all 2 of them had no clue how to properly stage tasks to get the job done efficiently.

It was excellent. They were professional and on time and on budget. They were friendly. Great to work with. The crew was respectful.
