Frank’s Heating and Refrigeration has been established since 1988. Owner and service technician Frank Ormonde had worked many long hours when starting the business which was then known as Frank’s Refrigeration. Working out of his home for 2 years, Frank started installing and servicing restaurant equipment. As time progressed the business expanded to the heating industry adding valuable employees and moving into a larger office location. Frank’s Refrigeration then changed its name to Frank’s Heating and Refrigeration. Wanting to expand into our extended community in Curry County, Frank decided to add another location which is now known as Orca Heating and Refrigeration. With the two companies and many valuable employees, Frank now has the ability to provide the knowledge and comfort to both residential and commercial customers. Currently Frank’s Heating and Refrigeration and Orca Heating and Refrigeration are providing comfort and quality service to the Del Norte, Curry and Humboldt Counties.

"We evaluated all the HVAC companies here in Brookings, and are convinced ORCA is the most knowledgeable and professional company. Steve helped us evaluate the right heat pump system for this house, and got it -- and some strange extras we wanted -- at the right price. Fernando especially needs to be recognized as the most skilled and hard working installation guy around. All our questions and concerns were answered, the system was installed on time, under budget, with all rebates, and it's running great. We are totally satisfied customers."

Central Vacuum Cleaners questions, answered by experts

Before deciding whether or not to install a central vacuum system, consider the pros and cons to determine if it’s right for you.

Pros

  • Increased suction power

  • Improved air quality

  • Reduced noise pollution

  • Longer lifespan than traditional self-contained vacuum units

Cons

  • Higher upfront installation costs

  • Expensive repairs

  • Requires significant storage space

The disadvantages associated with central vacuums start with cost. They are expensive to install, especially in existing homes, as retrofitting requires opening walls. The system's bulky hoses can also be inconvenient to maneuver and store compared to portable vacuums. Additionally, repairs may need professional service, adding to maintenance costs. Lastly, while powerful, they may be overkill for smaller homes or apartments, making the investment less practical for some households.

Most home warranties cover either home appliances or home systems, and some cover both. Appliance packages will usually include protection for all kitchen appliances, like refrigerators, ovens, stoves, built-in microwaves, and dishwashers, with some covering washing machines and dryers. Systems-only plans normally cover the plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems, as well as most of the components. Combination plans cover the major appliances in addition to home systems.

If your central vacuum has lost suction, you probably have a clog in the system. You can remove a clog yourself using a portable vacuum cleaner or central vacuum maintenance sheets. Stubborn clogs or damage to the system require a specialized technician to repair.

While caulking is handy for quite a bit of jobs, it’s still limited. Any crack or gap larger than 1/4 inch is best left for a more intensive repair job. When you hire house painters, they should run a thorough check to see what they need to repair before they start the job.

Large repairs that caulking typically won’t do well with include cracks or holes larger than a 1/4 inch, rotted wood, or metal surfaces, such as garage doors.
