Peake Sun Control, Inc. Serving Portland and the Pacific Northwest since 1966 authorized 3M Sun Control Window Tinting Films, Privacy/Decorative Glass Films, and Safety/Security Films

"I am a contractor from NY that moved to Portland and have had extensive contact with window film installers, and actually have a friend in NY who is a top level 3M installer, so I pretty much knew what I wanted. I called 3 companies to get an estimate and two showed up. Peake (Tim) was my choice after 5 minutes of talking with him. I wanted the top of the line 3M film, as it is the best on the market, and the little increase in cost was worth it. Tim's quote was very fair, not the cheapest, but I gave him the job as I felt he was a pro. He showed up today at 7:30 as promised and by 10:30 was done. He was extremely neat, very fast, and did an excellent job, proving that my feeling that he was a pro was on the money. I very highly recommend him, and the 3M film he uses. You get what you pay for and window film is not something you want to cheap out on."

Hurricane Film questions, answered by experts

During hurricanes or other major storms, high winds can cause objects and debris to fly through the air, which can break your windows. Depending on how strong the storm is, the winds themselves may be strong enough to break your windows, too. Investing in storm windows or hurricane shutters can help protect you against potential window breakage.

Your insurance premium may increase if you file a roof claim or any other type of claim. Changes to your premium will depend on your insurance company, the size of the claim, and the number of claims you’ve made. Insurers may also increase rates at renewal based on factors outside of your control, such as changing weather patterns.

Yes, hail damage to your roof can definitely cause water leaks in your roof. This is because hailstones can break, chip, crack, or split shingles of all types, exposing underlayment. This underlayment doesn’t offer as much protection against water, so when it becomes compromised, water can penetrate and leak deeper into your home.

Hail damage is bad for a roof because it can leave the roof vulnerable to the elements. Hail may leave more than dents or scratches behind. It can actually cause the shingles to crack, which means water can leak into your home from the roof. Hail can also wear down the granules on the shingles. Without these granules, the shingles are weaker and more vulnerable to the elements, particularly wind. If the hailstorm is accompanied by high winds, it may take your shingles with it.

Generally, your homeowner’s insurance might only cover ceiling collapses caused by problems under the coverage, such as a busted pipe. But if the ceiling collapse resulted from owner negligence, maintenance issues, or other reasons excluded by your policy, you could be on your own. Some policies might cover damages caused by the collapse but not the repair itself. Check with your policy carrier for the most accurate information regarding ceiling collapse coverage.
