We sell and service Softub brand spas/hotubs. We sell a wide variety of wood stoves, gas stoves, pellet stoves, fireplaces and accessories. We subcontract service and installation of our hearth products. We have several financing options available and also accept cash, checks and all major credit cards. We have sales and promotions throughout the year. We display twice per year (spring and fall) at the Lane County Home & Garden and Home Improvement Shows. We offer classes with the purchase of new sewing machines and also host a bi-monthly Viking Sewing Club.

Gas Logs questions, answered by experts

In most cases, a gas stove should be installed by a licensed plumber. Connecting gas appliances carries many risks, chief among them a fatal gas leak. If your home is already set up with the proper gas hookups, you may be able to DIY the installation (or save money by hiring a local handyperson or basic appliance installer near you rather than a plumber). If you’re ever in doubt, however, we recommend going with a professional master plumber.

The size of a pipe isn’t always the outside or inside diameter. Rather, it’s a nominal diameter that depends on the type of pipe. For male pipes, you’ll need to measure the outside diameter. For female pipes, you’ll need to measure the inside diameter. You’ll then need to use a nominal diameter conversion chart to get the actual pipe size you’d buy in the store.

Some cities or states may require you to have an earthquake gas shut-off valve. Your insurance provider may also have requirements for installing this valve. Even if you don’t have to have one by law, it’s wise to have a natural gas plumber install one anyway. These devices can be lifesaving and prevent fires or explosions in the event of a gas leak.

Even if you invested in the cost of a gas shut-off valve for your oven and other appliances, it’s a good idea to add a seismic shut-off valve as an extra safety measure. 

Gas shut-off valves for appliances are manual, meaning someone has to cut off the flow of gas. This leaves room for error, as you might not be home or might be too distracted to think about gas lines during an earthquake. An earthquake valve is automatic and will protect your home from gas-related disasters in the event of an earthquake.

You can and should vent the gas from your hot water heater to the outside of your home. Traditionally, these gases were vented back to other gas appliances, like stoves or furnaces, but many jurisdictions have outlawed this practice due to the risks it provides. 

Most water heaters today use atmospheric venting that exhausts the gas out of the home through a pipe.
