I've used him many times and he's super reasonable and he's been in the business maybe 40 years or so and I would just give Mr Hanson top notch ratings. He is prompt he shows up within an hour or two of your call.

Excellent! I am very very pleased with the work Jim did. Our heat pump stopped working on Sunday with a heat wave due midweek. I first called and had Sears Home Service come out...HUGE MISTAKE. Our heat pump is an older unit and I know at some point I will have to replace it, but I was hoping now was not that time. Well the Sears technician came out, said the start relay had burned up and the unit was obsolete and it was time for a new one and that it would be over $10,000! I had previous looked at heat pumps about a year before and knew the price he quoted me was beyond outrageous since the house was already wired and ducted for a heat pump and furnace. I sent him on his way. I then reached out to a guy I knew for some previous work on our manufactured home to see if he knew anyone I could trust to come out. He immediately recommended Jim at Hanson Heating. I gave him a call and Jim said he could be out that afternoon. Jim was both knowledgeable and very nice to talk to and deal with on the phone and in person. He was here about an hour, replaced the start component, burned wires and contactor. An hour later and at a reasonable price Jim had us back in cool comfort again. We can't thank you enough Jim and we also can't recommend him enough to anyone needing heating or cooling service.

At 8:30 am on a Sunday I called 4 AC repair service providers; Jim was the only one that personally answered the phone (the rest were answering services). He said he could come out after another morning call. He also stated that his charges were the same regardless of day. In the meantime the other service providers called back and gave me quotes: I was out of the service area for one and the other gave me a very high quote just to drive to my house as it was an "emergency" call. Jim arrive at 10:30 am and fixed my AC in no time. I was then able to enjoy the day and not bake in my house!

I called Jim and he said he would stop by on his way to another client. He was here within 30 minutes. Went to the fuse box, saw the breaker for the air conditioner was OFF, flipped it to On and there was the fix. He is a very nice man. I have used him before and will again. I asked how much I owed him and he said $5.00 - senior discount!

I called this company's phone number. Jim answered my call and he was very nice. He was in the middle of his busy day and had horrible traffic. He still was able to come same day even though there was a heat wave coming the next day. He was very professional and got right down to business. He was very friendly. He was very thorough, checking the entire system, cleaning everything out and recharging the system with freon. Everything was working perfectly after an hour or less. He never tried to up sell any services or products. He even had dog treats in his pockets for my dog. A kind of happy go lucky guy who knows his stuff. I feel so lucky we called Jim. Excellent service and price. You won't go wrong with him. My wife was in tears because we got it fixed ASAP and for cheap. She gave him a home made chocolate chip cookie, which he happily accepted.

Its like when you take your car to themechanic and it doesn't make the noise... Jim came out three separate times to find the problem. Only charged for the problem solving. Call.
They put my whole system in, including venting etc. In a 1935 house. Great job, honest and good guy

He had a lot to do with our air conditioner work. The builder who originally installed it took a lot of shortcuts so Jim has worked to sort it out. Jim is a one man show and he is really reliable. Three weeks ago he came to make an adjustment and left me a note. He is always on time and I have been really pleased with the service. The price is very reasonable and he is straight forward about the costs. He always tries to find the least expensive way to resolve issues and he has helped with my budget. He comes into my home when I am not there because I trust him. I can not say enough great things about the service.

I was very satisfied with Hanson Heating. It was just fine. I remember it was a lot cheaper than a lot of bids I got, it was a very good price.

This was totally amazing and above and beyond the call. If I could give Jim higher than an A I would!!
We called Sunday morning after discovering the problem Saturday evening. He was over to our house
in less than an hour at no additional cost!! He checked out the whole system and found there were
leaves in the air intake pcv pipe. There's a screen to prevent anything from being sucked into the furnace
which he taught us how to take it off and check for debris. He checked outside to make sure the exhaust vent
was working properly as well as checked all the systems to be sure everything was in good working condition.
Was here about an hour and a half for the service call. Jim and his crew have done work for us at 3 different locations and each time he
has never been late or without the proper tools to complete the job. Plus he has a great attitude about his work and won't take advantage of you if you're in a lurch on a weekend or late in the day.
We cannot say enough good things about him and would recommend Hanson Heating over any other company.
Thanks Jim--you guys are tops!!

My furnace wasn't working so I called Jim because he had installed an AC
unit in June. I thought possibly there was a connection. He came out
within a couple hours, got it working right away and as it turned out
had nothing to do with the AC. Jim is great. I had him install a gas
log last year also and I can't recommend him enough. He has an amazing
work ethic and you can rely on him to be honest. I got his name from a
friend who was equally impressed. You can't go wrong using this company.

Shortly after I bought my current home, the furnace went out. The home had an insurance package that covered the major systems so I placed a call to have it fixed. Two different repair services made three trips to my house to try to fix the problem and each time I was told that the system was old and beyond repair and that they could sell me a replacement. At this point I gave up on the insurance and called Jim Hanson.
Jim had the furnace up and running in no time. When I asked if it should be replaced, he said no, it is a great brand, 85% efficient, and a real work horse. Replacement parts are harder to find, but Jim has worked his magic and kept this furnace running for 6 years. Jim could have done the same thing as the others, and told me that it could not be fixed and I would bought a new furnace from him, but he didn't; he is honest and his prices are fair.
Jim has also installed gas lines (for gas stoves) in both of my homes.

From start to finish this was an amazing experience. Not only is Jim personable but so are his workmen. Any questions we had were answered and he always asked if there was anything else he could do for us. We will never use another furnace company as long as Hanson is in business. Also, the price was more than reasonable for everything he did. Highly recommend this company.

If I could give them an A++++++++++, I would. I have an older home and was having some trouble with an old flexible heating duct and my a/c was not cooling my home. Hanson's service technicians came out diagnosed my problem, and gave me some pros and cons on solutions. They looked at my furnace and found some minor problems. They took care of everything. They were professional, quick, honest and very reasonable. They gave me good advice on my filters and ducting situation. I really felt they had my best interest at heart. I have dealt with many heating companies in the past, including one that told me I needed to replace my furnace because it was 20 years old, forget that it still worked fine. I was so pleased with their work. They gave me good old fashioned quality service. I plan on becoming a regular customer and will refer them to others.

As always, Hanson is very responsive, professional and courteous to their customers. We have worked with them on several occasions and always more than satisfied. Jim really knows his business and explains everything to us.

I have mixed feelings about this service call. They said they were in the neighborhood when I called and came within a few minutes. There was no discussion of fees and they swung by quickly, so my assumption was that they were stopping by to look and let me know what they would do next or give me an estimate. Jim and his assistant swooped into the basement, quickly drilled some bracing on a large piece of ducting sheetmetal, put in a new filter that I supplied, looked at the burners and then charged me $85 and left. If large, popping sheetmetal is the cause of the noise, there are about 5 other places that would need bracing that they left alone. It wasn't clear to me why they didn't brace the other areas. The entire transaction seemed rushed. $40 bucks for 5 minutes of travel time, $40 for 30 minutes of work, and $5 for parts. Not that big of a deal in terms of $, but they charged me without setting expectations. His assistant asked me what the rent was on my rental unit which I thought was a little intrusive and awkward. Jim seems to be knowledgeable and let me know the condition and type of furnaces I own. I also appreciated his responsiveness.

I have used Hanson in the past for replacing the electronic ignition on our gas heater, they were awesome with that so it was a no-brainer that i would use them again for my current issue. OUr 12 year old gas furnace would heat the house, but then the blower would continue without stopping unless i killed the safety switch at the actual furnace. I called Hanson around 9 am, he asked if i had recently cleaned the filters and was the fan switch on, i said i had cleaned the filters and no the fan switch was not on. He thought maybe it was the circuit board because it had an electronic air filter. He said he would be right out after he was done with his current job, around 12:30 they called to let me know they were stopping for lunch, then they arrived around 1:30. They were very friendly to my over enthusiastic dog, came in looked at the thermostat, flipped the fan switch from on back to automatic, said there is your problem. I felt like a complete "ditz" especially after i said no the fan switch was not on. But they didn't make me feel bad at all. They were so nice. I offered them a piece of apple pie that i had just taken out of the oven for wasting their time, but they declined. They didn't charge me anything. I love these guys!! Next time i have a real problem, they will be the ones i call again!

This guy is a saint! He answered my call personally - no voicemail. He provided same-day service, as promised, and diagnosed and repaired the problem in about 20 minutes. His charge was way less than I anticipated having to pay. I will definitely call Hanson Heating again for all my HVAC needs!

They are great and I would recommend them to anyone. They are great at coming in and finding things that other companies overlook and not charging a whole big bunch. We thought they charged less that we thought they would. It is one guy and his nephew and they have a low overheat. We would use them again in a minute.

Went very well. I had bids from 4 different companies in the metro Portland area. Jim was cheaper than the next lowest by about $800, although part of this is the Goodman vs. a big name manufacturer (Carrier). He was far more descriptive in how he would actually install the A/C. That is probably because he's both the sales guy and installer. He could install the thing in the next 2 days and the other (much larger) companies were out at least a week. Install was done in about 7 hours, very clean and with a lot of attention to detail. Only downsides to the whole process were that Jim didn't know a lot about the available tax credits for high-efficiency HVAC equipment, and so I was the one who chose to go with the better equipment. He didn't do a load calculation, but his own guess at the size unit (3 ton) was exactly the same as everyone who did a formal calculation. He did get a little frustrated at trying to figure out how my Carrier thermostat worked, but after a long day installing the thing I could hardly blame him since I couldn't figure it out either. It's a month later and very nice to have a cool, dry house on these 90 degree days. I strongly recommend him - it's a great price (especially after a ~$1100 federal rebate) and a very competent owner-operated installation.

Excellent from start to finish. Jim came out and provided complete details of what needed to be done and quoted a very fair price. We agreed on a Sat install which was easier for me and he showed up on time ( 15 min early ! ) and did exactly what he said he would in less time than originally thought and communicated his progress throughout the install. Came in a little less than originally thought and in less time. Works and looks GREAT ! ( even after having to drill a hole through my foundation due to poor original install :)

Jim came out to look at the work needing done-to install a liner down my chimney to properly vent my gas water heater. After giving me a written estimate, he installed a heating vent in the basement for no charge. This took him at least half and hour, so I appreciated that little extra. He came out as scheduled to do the work, completed it quickly and cleaned up everything. When there was a problem with the permit, he returned to fix it(extra flashing was needed)without any hesitation, and no extra charge. Jim was personable, reliable and seems to know his work. I would use his services again and recommend him as well.

I woke up to find that our gas furnace was not working. Only blowing cold air. I smelled a little gas so I opened windows, turned off the gas at the house, checked Angie's List, read the report for the Hanson's and called them to come check it out. Jim was at the doctor and expected to return in about 1/2 hour so. I left message saying what was going on and asked for a call back. I got impatient so I called another company from the phone book here in Sandy hoping they could get to me sooner. The technician was also out and unreachable by cell phone because of location. Left another message with them. Whoever called me back first I would have come out. The house was 55 degrees and I have 2 kids and wanted to start a wood fire to warm us up. So I called the fire department to find out how long it would take to clear the house of gas so I could start a fire. They wanted to send out someone with a measuring device to make sure that there wasn't explosive levels of gas. They sent the whole big red truck with three outfitted guys and a meter. The house was clear. So we started a fire in the wood stove and waited. Jim called back first, said he couldn't get here for a few hours. I told him what was wrong, that I had a Rheem furnace with a electric ignition and it wasn't lighting. He arrived around 4 with the part in hand. Opened up the furnace, said "Yea, that ignition coil is cracked." It took him and his helper about 5 minutes to fix. I asked him about the electronic air filter that the previous house owners had installed. The "on" lights on it were not working anymore. They opened it up, checked the coils, put the door back on, and found that it was a loose door switch. They bent the little wire and voil , it worked again. I figured that since I had a heating guy here I would ask them to check out the duct lines in my crawlspace that I had been told by previous insulation guys it was "pretty toasty" down there and they thought that maybe the duct lines had a hole or something. Brant, I think his name was, crawled under there checked them out and said that there were no holes but it looked like someone had laid across one of the them and it was a bit squished but still functional. While Brant was under the house, Jim took the time to indulge my inquisitive 5 year old son in conversation. Which I always appreciate someone being friendly to my kids. It all took about 1/2 hour and before they left they gave us a whole bunch of stuff like magnets, pens and flashlights with their business info on it. Very friendly, nice guys.

Went very well. He had been in a car accident, so was slow to finally come after initial estimate. Had to call him a few times to remind him about the job, but perhaps an accident will do that.

A perfect experience. We had previously called another highly-rated service provider who made 3 separate visits but never did figure out what the problem was, and failed to make the necessary fix; after the 3rd visit, they told us the next morning that we would be "better off" with a Lennox expert. So. We called Jim that afternoon. He said he had another hour to go on the job he was on, but would come over right after that. He did, showing up around 4:15 and working for almost 2 hours. Moreover, he literally diagnosed our problem over the phone, and said he would bring the necessary replacement part. He (and his nephew) got right to work, replaced the Intermittent Pilot Module ($150 for the part, a good price for this piece), checked and re-checked everything, then (at our request) unbolted and removed the huge blower unit, thoroughly cleaned out the cage and blades then replaced it & did a bunch of other tests.Jim and his nephew were totally professional, courteous, patient, friendly.

From phone call to furnace working again Jim was patient, thorough, and friendly. This is the 2nd time we have used him and each has been excellent in fast response, reasonable cost, and friendly service. He is keeping an older furnace going without excess parts or labor.
