Small jobs welcome

"I initially hired Erics Quality Building to replace my fence that was falling down. When I discovered that they also do siding, I asked for a quote to replace the rotting and cracked siding on my manufactured home. Eric gave me a more than fair deal on the entire project. For slightly more than what larger companies quoted to replace the siding only on the house (with vinyl), I ended up with a new cedar fence, all new fiber/cement siding (with fresh paint) on both the house and garage, all new windows on the house, all new gutters, new skirting, and new front door. Eric and his crew were friendly and respectful. They worked hard and did a fantastic job. Eric kept me up-to-date on what was happening when, if they ran into any snags or surprises, and made sound recommendations. He rearranged his schedule to accommodate my last minute request to add new windows. This was my first foray into the world of home improvement and I have heard/read horror stories of sleazy, underhanded contractors, so I was wary when I started this project. My experience was just the opposite. Eric is refreshingly honest and ethical. He takes pride in the quality of his company s work, and cares about the client s happiness with the finished product. The new fence is beautiful; the house looks fresh and welcoming. I would absolutely recommend Erics Quality Building for whatever home improvement project you may have."

"WE LOVE JOSH! We initially hired him to remodel a kitchen after another contractor botched the job. Josh fixed everything and got everything finished the way it should been in the first place! We have since hired him for two more jobs: pouring a concrete driveway extension for RV parking, and replacing some siding and painting the entire exterior of the house. Josh is meticulous and clearly takes pride in his work, he is super easy to work with! I HIGHLY recommend Josh, we will continue to hire him for all of our construction needs!"

"George and his crew completed our ADA bathroom remodel two weeks earlier than contracted. They were professional in the face of challenges that come with remodel surprises when the walls are opened up. We hardly knew they were in our home and thrilled with the new bathroom!"

"The contracted the work off to a third party. Jon took longer than expected. The windows was installed pretty good from the looks. Communication could have been better with knowing the job will take longer and what types of trims I wanted for the windows. As the contractor that was hired for this job by this company. Did a good job with putting up decent trim. As for the new windows they look great. I purchased the myself and hired sentri homes to install them. I will need to have a my siding on my house redone to be closer to the new windows so the gaps are not so obvious. That was not expected at first. But from old storm windows and not knowing how they were put in originally. There was some unknown things that was learned from the job being completed. I will have the siding of the house slightly done to match really good for what I wanted later on. My only concern is better communication with sentri homes. Overall they were great when I did talk to them."

"I don't usually write reviews online, but in this situation I cannot help myself. I was blown away by Mark's responsiveness and work ethic. I venture to say that Mark is faster, smarter, more efficient, and more detail-oriented than most any contractor. I was in a desperate situation (had to fire another contractor for unfortunate reasons and NEEDED our only tub replaced and bathroom tiled so my fiancé could use it to recover from surgery in a few days). Mark problem-solved quickly, told me to buy a new tub, and came over Friday at 5 after his regular work day to help me get the tub replaced in under 2 hours. After asking his wife first (classy), he offered to work over the weekend to get the job done. We worked side by side to knock out the bathroom in 2 very long days. Being a new home owner, I was jazzed to learn how to tile and Mark was an excellent leader and teacher. Honestly, I could go on and on. This guy is for real. He's professional, skilled, and efficient as all get out. I'm sure he isn't perfect, but I think you'd be very hard pressed to find a better skilled or more enjoyable contractor in the area. "

"We hired Western Paver Design based off of a friend s experience as they had just remodeled their backyard. Their property looked amazing after the remodel and I was convinced to give Joe Fisher a call after learning how thorough WPD is with all their jobs. The great John Wooden once said, If you don t have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it again. This really sums up the meticulous approach to craftsmanship that the WPD crew has. For our project, we had our 30 year old deck torn down and the concrete pool deck below ripped up due to invasive tree roots lifting the concrete. Demolition was a breeze that basically took one day. After demo was over, the head of Joe s crew, Darwin, got down to work with crafting a solid, level foundation to lay down new pavers as well as the footings for the new deck. Darwin made light work of the pavers and two new retaining walls on our property. That work alone really transformed our back yard into a new space. Once the pavers were down, it was time for the 14 x 12 deck to go up. To complicate things, we asked for a roof over the deck that was attached to the home s roof and that it look like an original feature of the house. This was truly no problem for WPD as the new addition to our home went up without a hitch. All our neighbors can say as they come over is Wow! because the craftsmanship is amazing and really shows due to the beautiful cedar wrapped posts and tongue and groove ceiling. In addition to the deck, pavers and retaining walls, we also had WPD design and build a 7 foot privacy fence. With over 380 feet of fence line this was a daunting task, but no match for WPD. The fence looks spectacular and is solidly built. WPD also cleaned up the side of our house by adding new steps, which look fantastic. They also added a sliding barn door to our unsightly pool equipment area. Now the area looks professionally finished as well as being more functional. Last but not least, we added a slide right next to the new stairway. We had no idea how this would finish, but Darwin and his ingenuity led to a solution that we were more than happy with. Utilizing left over Trex composite decking from the deck build, they created a cute little platform to step up to the slide that our kids instantly began to enjoy. Our experience with Western Paver Design was ultimately a pleasure. Joe is personable and has a great crew. We loved the work and experience so much that we are having WPD back to redo our front yard in the Spring."

"My kitchen was old and I wanted new countertops and new fixtures. They replaced what I requested and worked tirelessly until it was done. Even after I changed my mind about something, they altered the plans to satisfy me. I’m happy with the work and this is the second time I hire them to work on my home."

Home Building questions, answered by experts

A carriage house is a freestanding building, while a townhouse is connected to other units. A townhouse is a full single-family home and typically shares a parcel of land with other connected homes. A carriage house is rarely used as the sole single-family home on a property and is most often an additional building sharing property with a traditional single-family home.

In most states, you can build an in-law suite on your property as long as you follow local building codes. However, it's important that you have enough space on your property to accommodate the new structure. A functional in-law suite in your backyard will require between 300 and 800 square feet of space.

The average cost to build a modular home is around $270,000, and most modular homes total between $180,000 and $360,000. Of course, this price varies significantly by location, and the price tends to follow the cost of living in the area. There are quite a few other factors at play that can affect your pricing, including the following:

  • Number of bedrooms and bathrooms

  • Site preparation, including land clearing and leveling

  • Type of foundation

  • Utility connections

  • Cost of building permits

Typically, architects do not build homes in a hands-on sense of doing the actual framing, roofing, or other building. Architects usually do not have the training and experience to build the homes they design. An architect would need to know how to do the specific trades required to build a house, which is possible but not a common practice. A general contractor or homebuilder typically oversees the actual details of building the house that the architect designs.

While it’s never too early to start planning for a major home improvement project like a home addition, give yourself at least a month or two to plan and design your addition, find a contractor, and get the permits in order. For larger projects like a second-story addition that require designing with an architect, plan on three to four months of preparation.
