The floor was in terrible shape: parts of it had been tiled, parts painted, parts dug up and badly patched, and all incredibly uneven. After consultation and helpful advice from Alan, we opted to have the floor grinded and skim-coated before staining. We learned that staining a concrete floor takes faith: It's not an exact science because every floor responds a little differently to the stains—even after skim-coating. From a color and design standpoint, we didn't know exactly how our floor would look when it was finished. But Alan had prepared us well and together we adjusted here and there along the way to achieve a great final result.
Alan's crew was punctual and courteous and the job stayed on budget and on schedule. After they finished, we covered the floor and proceeded with the final renovation.
