Both follow guidelines set out by ASCA (American Society of Consulting Arborists) and ANSI (American National Standards Institute) for evaluating trees for health and risk. In both cases we will evaluate your trees for condition (health) and structure (risk). You will have an idea of why your trees are growing the way they are, what to expect from the future and how best to maintain them at their highest and best use. - Level 1 Tree Inspection: $200 "We will spend up to an hour on site answering your tree questions. This is best if you have multiple trees to look at and/or lots of questions but have no need of a formal written report." - Level 2 Tree Inspection: $425 "We will examine up to three trees at a more in depth level. Measurements for height, girth, crown size and shape, foliar and rooting conditions, as well as surrounding environmental issues will be taken during a 360 degree visual evaluation of the tree. This will be reported back to you with recommendations for future care in written format. The Level 2 Assessment is best if you require documentation for property line trees, damaged trees, or just for your future reference. " Based upon this, he said I probably need Level One for $200. I was confused by his reply since I specifically said in my contact email that I wanted work done, and not a report, and I told Zeb this in my email reply. I also pointed out to him that the Level One "assessment" was currently being offered for $149 on Angie's list (a $165 value) and that it sounded like the $200 Level One visit was nothing more than him charging me to come to my home to give me an estimate. Zeb emailed me back and wrote: "The Angie?s List deal is only available to members that live in South King County and Pierce County. And as clarification, the Level 1 assessment is in no way intended to be a sales call for the purpose of providing a quote; it is a professional evaluation of your trees. If you are looking for a free estimate, we might not be the right fit for you. Apologies if there was a misunderstanding." To make a long story short, as of today (5/4/15 at 6:15 pm) there are no geographic restrictions on the Level One assessment and his reply sums it up, they don't do free estimates, if you want an estimate, they charge $200 and call it an assessment. If his company can get away with charging $200 (or $149 or whatever he chooses to charge) for an estimate while competitors with similar degrees/educations/reputations do them for free, good for Tree Resource, but call it what it is, don't hide behind this verbal assessment stuff. You only get one chance to make a good first impression and - Zeb is correct - based upon this exchange, Tree Resource isn't the right fit for me; I want to hire someone that I can trust is shooting straight with me and I will take my business elsewhere. My experience with Master Tree Care Inc. was excellent from start to finish.
So often in this type of situation a professional looking person comes out to do the estimate but then on the actual work day that person is nowhere to be found. Instead some strange grungy people show up who often don?t seem like they really care about what they?re doing. Not so here! Tom Bartels was the person who came out to discuss the project and give me an estimate, and he was the one who returned to do the work. I also liked that he is an actual Arborist. That was not the case with most of the other companies I contacted.
Tom was punctual, professional and pleasant. He and his co-worker worked carefully and skillfully to correct the problems and leave the trees looking great. They cut and stacked the burnable limbs that were removed, chipped the rest and did a wonderful clean-up job after the work was completed.
I would highly recommend this company.

Like many people in the area my wife and I have a small yard with about a dozen small to medium sized trees. In 2009 we needed help with two trees that had issues. We also needed help with 5 trees that were planted too close to the house (by the builder). It seemed like the best approach would be to hire a certified arborist to address our concerns. There are lots of tree service companies from which to choose. I looked at many companies most of which send out a crew that may or may not include a certified arborist. With our small yard I wanted to work directly with a certified arborist. At that point we found Natural Selection and hired Benjamin to perform the work.
When we first met in 2009, Benjamin and I walked around the yard to talk about the work needed. For each tree, Benjamin would call out the species and quickly assess the condition of the tree and what it might need both now and in the future. His knowledge and experience was immediately obvious. For the two trees with issues, Benjamin said that he thought that they would recover on their own and we should wait and see. For the rest he did some fairly significant pruning. That took care of the trees planted too close to the house and improved the structure of the other trees. We were very happy with the work. By the way, regarding the two trees with issues, one has totally recovered and the other is steadily improving, as predicted.
Because trees continue to grow, pruning is an on-going process. Since our initial service, we have had Benjamin return to our yard two times for more pruning work. Benjamin specializes in what he calls "fine pruning". He has a very good sense of aesthetics. The trees look great and their overall condition has steadily improved. In addition to pruning, Benjamin provides a full range of tree services. For example, on the first visit, Benjamin made us aware of a potential problem with a Flowering Pear tree in our front yard. The tree has a "V" shaped crotch and Benjamin indicated that this may split in the future. Sure enough, this year I noticed that the bark was torn and that the tree was just starting to split. When he came last week I pointed this out to Benjamin and we made arrangements for him to install a threaded bolt (that won't be visible) in the tree to fix the problem. It would have been far more expensive to let the tree split and then have to replace it. Benjamin told me that if he had planted the tree in the first place, he would have selected a tree with no "V" crotch. One of many valuable arborist lessons.
In terms of cost, Natural Selection is not the cheapest provider out there. I will say, however, that Benjamin has a low-overhead approach. He does most of the work himself (although he has other resources available if necessary). My trees get expert care and I get expert advice. It's a perfect fit for my small yard. I feel like I'm getting good value for my money.
Over time, Benjamin has developed a relationship with my trees. At this point I won't let anyone else touch them (especially my wife or myself). This is one of the rare things in life where I can have someone else assume responsibility and not have to worry about it. As a customer, Benjamin makes me feel like he has my back. I would recommend Natural Selection without reservation. Benjamin is knowledgeable, honest, has a great attitude, does a quality job and takes pride in his work. It's a little difficult for me to explain how incredible Arbor Care is. My girlfriend and I met one of their arborists (Jake) at the AZ Home & Garden Show...he was friendly, knowledgeable, and very passionate about all things trees. We decided to give them a call to remove a massive pine tree...

Did exactly what was asked PLUS they cut up the larger parts of the trees into wood stove size pieces. They also did a little extra trimming at no charge. I'm sold and have an arborist for life.

"Jan. 27, 2025 I paid Mario $85 to pull some weeds at my mobile home (that was basically edge work, because i have an outdoor 'looks like grass' carpet covering all area and no plants or vegetation at all, so it wasn't a massive job). He suggested I pay him $85 for 2 visits (so the 2nd visit would be free). Then he basically just 'weed wacked' the weeds instead of pulling them up by roots (as I said I needed done). I didn't see this until after he left, when I went out to pick up weed debri he had left on the ground....and instead I spent over an hr now pulling roots growing under the carpet edging left behind. After few months of rain, huge weeds now reappeared, forcing me to do again (easier to pull when wet) because couldn't reach him for 2nd 'prepaid' visit! Now today, tried again to call, recording says 'no voicemail setup', & all sites advertised on say CLOSED all days/hrs w/no contact info. This guy now GONE & I paid $85 for a 30 min. weed whack job!??? Scammer??"

FAQs for arboricultural service projects in Crooked River Ranch, OR
Landscapers typically charge $25 to $50 per person per hour, which equals around $50 to $100 per hour for a two-person crew. These rates can vary depending on your location, the size of staff needed for the job, and overall job type. For example, a larger crew will be needed for structural additions and hardscaping versus planting flowers.
When it comes to landscapers, licensing laws vary. Landscaping architects are required to be licensed in all 50 states, whereas traditional landscaping contractors are not typically required to hold a certification. You’ll likely be working with a landscaping contractor for most residential projects. If you are redesigning your whole yard or adding in hardscape features, you will work with a landscaping architect at some point during the project. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local landscaper guidelines.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
On average, removing a tree costs around $750, but you can expect to pay between $200 to $2,000. Factors that impact the overall cost include the number of trees you’re having removed, their height, the diameter of their trunks, permits needed, and the tree’s accessibility. You’ll pay more if the tree is in a hard-to-reach area or dangerous location, like close to power lines.
Landscaping costs around $3,500 but varies widely from $200 to $14,000. Factors that play a part in your final landscaping price tag include:
Location
Yard size
Project size
Materials
Land preparation
Type of landscaping
Considering so many factors, it’s not surprising that the overall costs can differ. A typical landscaping project is flower bed installation, which averages between $800 and $3,000. However, landscape lighting installation is a higher-end project, with a price tag of $2,000 to $6,000.
Yes, you will want to confirm that the tree removal company you hire is insured before proceeding with the job. Tree removal can be dangerous work, and it's important to verify that the company carries the proper insurance to cover any onsite accidents or damage.
