"My carport collapsed from very wet, heavy snow. Even though it was a very busy time for him, Matt Hunter came up with a week of when I contacted him. The final cost of the job was less than his estimate and the new carport is much sturdier and better looking than the previous one. He also installed two handrails for the staircase inside my house and a grab bar in my shower. The cost was more than fair and the quality of the finished work was great. I would highly recommend Matt for any construction project."

"I went to Bend Lock & Safe just yesterday to get a hopefully secure chain and lock for my fat-tire Ebike, after they were recommended by Nextdoor Neighbor as being honest and helpful. A young man, Jimmy, helped me and was very nice. I was all set to give a good review until my husband found the EXACT same ABUS lock (83CS/50) online today for under $25. I wanted to support local vs ordering online but not at the ridiculous mark-up that BL&S charges. I paid $77.45 just for the lock-not including the chain. Also, the box my lock came in has a sticker of $65.30, which I didn't realize until today?. So I was overcharged $12.15 on the ABUS lock ... aside from the crazy mark-up. I also thought the display price BL&S has of the chain samples included the cloth protective sleeve, as I saw no mention o it not being a "unit" price, but that's an extra charge I wasn't expecting. I realize that BL&S is a business, and businesses have a mark-up,but that's a ridiculous percentage and I feel ripped off and scammed and feel like returning the whole set-up. Now I don't even feel sure that I was guided correctly to a good secure chain and lock set up.?"

Lock bumping is a technique locksmiths use to quickly and quietly open a pin tumbler lock, typically found in most types of deadbolts. It involves inserting a specially crafted key, or bump key, into the lock and tapping or "bumping" it with a mallet or similar tool. The force applied causes the lock's pins to jump momentarily, allowing the lock to be turned and opened. Unfortunately, thieves also use this technique to break into homes. Luckily, products like a deadbolt strap will fortify your lock.

It’s best to avoid using oil-based lubricants within a lock because they attract larger amounts of dust and debris. When this occurs, it can make it harder for you to operate the lock, or it can even cause damage to the internal locking mechanism. A dry lubricant is the ideal solution instead.

Deadbolts are solid and durable as can be, but the pin and tumbler can still be forced open, thus making this type of lock susceptible to picking. Most types of deadbolts are harder to pick than a traditional spring-based lock, though. It requires a specialized lock pick and a tension wrench to align all of the pins, thus unlocking the door. 

If your door handle turns without opening, the most likely culprit is a loose or stripped spindle. This part connects the handles to the latch mechanism, and when it’s not properly engaged, turning the handle does nothing. Other issues might include a broken latch, loose screws, or even something small blocking an inner mechanism. In any case, it’s usually a matter of tightening, adjusting, or replacing a worn-out part inside the handle assembly—or calling in a professional to do it for you.

Whether or not keyless door locks are safe and trustworthy depends on the visibility of the programming code—and a trespasser’s determination. Even if you carefully guard entry and programming codes, those trying to break in may be able to crack open the lock’s faceplate with a screwdriver and change the codes. The same goes for manual models.

Some find smart locks the safest option because it’s harder to manipulate codes without access to your phone. But it’s possible to get hacked even then. Consider installing an extended security system, like door and window alarms or surveillance cameras, to enhance security.
