Over 25 years experience, and locally owned and operated since 1993. Interior and exterior painting. Residential/commercial. New and existing construction, remodels and repairs. Paint and stain grade custom cabinetry and wood work. Doors, stairs, bannisters, railings, mantles etc.

"We had four estimates for painting and chose Rick; he was not the least expensive, but his explanation of the process seemed the most sensible. When he arrived, he walked the house and showed us a few areas that needed extra attention. Again, he explained what he was going to do. When his associate noticed the old telephone junction box, he offered to remove it and all the wiring along the house. We happily said yes, and told Rick to add a little extra to the agreed-upon estimate. Our house is a rectangular ranch with a 105-foot roof line. They were done in three days; one day for prep, one day for the body of the house, and one day for the trim, each taking approximately six hours. They arrived on time every day, were happy to answer questions, and did what they said they would do. I will recommend Rick Shier to anyone who needs painting; they did an awesome job."

Yes, you can waterproof any wood that has not already been treated. A good way to test this is to splash some water on it. If the water starts to bead up, the wood is treated and most likely doesn’t need another coating.

The longevity of paint on wood depends on factors like the quality of the paint, surface preparation, exposure to elements, and maintenance. Exterior paint on wood surfaces can last 5 to 15 years or more with proper care and maintenance. Interior paint tends to have a longer life span, often 10 years or more. If you paint a vinyl fence, it will likely stick to it for only a brief amount of time. This is because vinyl is not a porous material, so it's not an ideal surface for holding paint. Initially, paint will stick to your fence, but it will eventually peel off. Applying primer before painting your vinyl fence will help paint last longer. Certain primers are well-suited to vinyl, which means you can paint vinyl siding with the proper preparation.

Stains penetrate wood best when it's cool and dry, so you want to avoid moisture. If the wood is wet upon application, or if it rains before the stain dries, the water will soak into the wood and displace the staining solution. This leads to a flaky and blotchy look, which is the opposite of a sumptuous even coat. Once the stain has fully cured, after about 3 days, rain shouldn’t cause you any problems.

The best way to prepare your vinyl fence for a paint job is to clean it with warm, soapy water and rinse it with a hose or pressure washer on a low setting. Be sure to let it totally dry, then sand the surface before applying an epoxy-based primer. After the primer, you're ready to paint your vinyl fence.
