No, most homeowners insurance will not cover the replacement of polybutylene pipes. These pipes are considered defective and high-risk and can cause leaks and severe water damage. They usually don’t fall under “sudden and accidental” damage. Unfortunately, you most likely will need to pay for the pipe replacement yourself.

The first thing to consider when converting a tub into a shower is whether you’d like to simply change out the tub or undertake a complete bathroom remodel. Replacing a main water shut-off valve costs anywhere from $300 to $1,000, or more depending on your project’s specifications. You’ll need to replace the shut-off valve if the size of the pipe changes (as is common with trenchless replacement) or the material used in the new pipes isn’t compatible with the valve.
