Since pedestal sinks are narrow and don’t have a cupboard to conceal pipes, many homeowners change their plumbing to make it less visible. It’s a big reason why installing a pedestal sink is more labor-intensive than other types.

Ensure there’s a way to flush out excess water from the generator. There will either be a bin you can pull to dump water down the drain or a simple button if your generator is hooked up to a drainage pipe. 

 Ideally, you’ll want to drain after every shower, but there will be a mark on the generator that shows how much water it can hold. Failing to drain the generator can lead to automatic shut-offs or damage.

Recaulk your toilet at least every five years. If you feel like your toilet is getting wobbly before that, it still might be time for a new caulking. Never directly place new caulk over existing caulk because that doesn’t produce lasting results. Also, caulking over existing moldy caulk does not kill out the mold by suffocating it, so if you have mold, be sure to get rid of it before recaulking.

No, it’s not safe to use a blowtorch or any open flame to thaw pipes. The intense heat can cause the pipe to burst and/or start a fire, leading to very costly damage. Instead, use safer external heating alternatives, such as heat tape, a space heater, or an infrared lamp. 

To bleed air from the pipes, start by turning off the main water supply. Then, starting with the faucet that’s closest to the water valve, open each of your faucets halfway, making sure to open both hot and cold options if they’re separate. This allows the air to escape the pipes. Once all faucets are open, turn your water supply back on and let the water run for 10 to 15 minutes until the faucets stop sputtering.
