"A1. Top tier. Best of the best. They were able to quickly come out and give me a quote on Friday morning for my popcorn ceilings. Then the following Monday got to work! Curtis and his crew exceeded expectations for customer service, speed, and quality. We now have his team on speed dial for any bumps that may come during this home renovation."

"Andy & his staff are hard working men. Andy also offered suggestions of ways to paint things & ways to glaze or antique built-ins like bookshelves & a hall tree. We really like that effect. Andy is a professional painter. He did an excellent job on two popcorn ceilings that they removed! One was a very high vaulted ceiling. And they also did a great job on painting our walls & trim in those two rooms....."

Small jobs welcome

"We were in a bind repairing our house. J. Velasquez and his team acted fast and thoroughly. The work of J Velasquez was impeccable and was of the highest quality. This was a very big job which included skim-coating the entire house, scrapping off popcorn ceiling material and resurfacing all walls and drywall. I would highly recommend J. Velaquez for all your project needs. Jesus was extremely meticulous with his work and the end product. You are making a big mistake unless you hire J Velasquez Services."

"Lee has been our go-to painter for several rental properties and our own home for over 10 years. He has just finished painting our master bedroom. It has a challenging pitched 20 foot ceiling and several settling cracks and blemishes that needed repair. As always with his work, the wall repairs look perfectly smooth and the paint flawless. Lee arrives on time, does the job in a very timely manner at a competitive price. He is an old pro and we will continue to hire him as our painter."

Popcorn Ceilings questions, answered by experts

Some pros may recommend covering a popcorn ceiling that tests positive for asbestos with beadboard ceiling planks or drywall. The cost to install a beadboard ceiling averages more than $5,000, but you likely will pay more than the average for the installer to deal with the asbestos safely. Installing a beadboard ceiling or new drywall will disturb the asbestos and release some microscopic fibers, so the installer will need to take precautions.

Popcorn ceilings have fallen out of popularity due to their outdated appearance, difficult maintenance, and potential health risks. Ceilings installed before the 1990s may contain asbestos, which poses a serious health hazard if disturbed. As design trends have shifted towards sleeker, more modern finishes, many homeowners now favor smoother ceilings that offer a cleaner look and easier upkeep.

However, popcorn ceilings do offer some benefits, such as acoustic dampening and the ability to hide imperfections. Some people also appreciate their retro charm or find them to be a cost-effective option. Ultimately, whether a popcorn ceiling is 'bad' depends on personal preference, safety concerns, and the overall aesthetic of the home.

When steaming falls short, consider utilizing a commercial texture remover tailored for popcorn ceiling removal. Adhere closely to the manufacturer's guidelines and conduct a preliminary test in an inconspicuous spot to verify compatibility with your ceiling. This specialized product offers an alternative solution for stubborn texture removal, potentially streamlining the process while safeguarding the integrity of your ceiling surface. Remember, products like these may be high-VOC, so wear protective gear.

The cost to repair a ceiling after a water leak can vary, with averages ranging from $419 to $1,359, or $45 to $55 per square foot. Smaller patches may cost around $150. The final price depends on the size of the affected area and the extent of the damage. Remember that you will also need to repair the source of the leak, such as roof damage or a plumbing issue, which can cost an additional $200 to $1,550. Depending on the situation, you might also face costs for repainting or repairing floors. For an accurate estimate, it is best to get a quote from a professional.

Although texturing walls may not seem like a lengthy project, you’ll need to set aside between one and five days to complete it properly. The exact amount will depend on the scope of your project—one room will take less than a whole-house project. That will give you enough time for tasks that are time-consuming in and of themselves, like taping wall edges, priming the walls and letting them dry fully, and actually applying the texture and top or base paint coats.
