"Great team where everyone knows exactly what to do. Finished the driveway in 1 day. Left the job side clean. Added cement to the asphalt which makes it look like concrete. Great job."

"As long as Nathan (the owner) was there, things went pretty well.  When he was gone his workers tended to try and take a lot of shortcuts in hopes they wouldn't be noticed.  Just a matter of pointing out the shortcuts to Nathan and having his crew do it right.  Somewhat typical I'd say of most hired hands in this sort of business.
They removed the decades-old azaleas and monkey grass and replanted various new shrubs.  In a perfect world the landscape designer would engineer a drawing and go from there.  I didn't see the need for that so we just sketched some stuff out and went for it.  In the end, I think we got just as good a product by winging it and letting Nathan make some on-the-fly decisions than we would have if we'd spend the money on some fancy drawings that probably would have gotten changed during the installation anyway.  Nathan's group brought in some hardscape which I think they did a really nice job installing and blending in.  As will all landscaping it is sort of designed to be sparse since it is supposed to grow together over the years.  So it looks a little thin now, but it'll be just fine in a few years.
This is purely my opinion, but I think they may have mixed in a little too much fertilizer/manure when they reworked the soil.  A lot of the plants exhibited some burning rather quickly which makes me think they got some root burn. They all are coming out of it, but there was definitely a pull-back on 90% of the landscaping within the first couple of weeks.  But that appears to have halted and I'm seeing some new growth appear from the soil upwards.  I would say it is more than just transplant shock.
Nathan cut me a deal since I waited until the end of summer when his business drops off rather than trying to get something done in the spring when he is swamped.  Landscaping is just expensive no matter what.  I'd use Bluum/Nathan again if I had the need to.  On the communications side, I'd say he communicates better than most contractors which is something I always appreciate.

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

When comparing installation costs, asphalt is often less expensive upfront than concrete. Asphalt prices typically range from $7 to $15 per square foot, while concrete can range from $3 to $18 per square foot. However, long-term costs should also be considered. Concrete driveways generally last longer (up to twice as long) and require less maintenance, which can make them more affordable over their lifespan. While asphalt has a lower installation cost and is easier to repair, it requires more frequent maintenance, such as sealing, which can add up over time. Therefore, while concrete is more expensive initially, its durability may offset the cost in the long run.

Whether it's worth it to install a heated driveway depends on how often you'll use it, your lifestyle, and your budget. If you live in a mild climate with little snowfall, then installing a built-in heated driveway system may not be worth it. If you live in a region that experiences mild snowfall, then a portable mat could work better. However, if you live in a region with heavy snowfall, it makes sense to invest in a built-in heated driveway.

Asphalt dries and cures best between 50 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. This range allows moisture to evaporate quickly without causing the asphalt to cool too fast, which can negatively affect the drying process. However, keep in mind that other weather conditions can also affect curing and drying times, such as precipitation and humidity.

Think of the street as a way to capture all the elements on either side of the road, including the road—a street encompasses the homes or other buildings, the trees, and the road of a given area as defined by the beginning and end of the street on a map. A roadway, however, is the component of the street where cars travel.

New asphalt goes through two stages: drying and curing. Drying typically takes 24 to 72 hours, after which the surface is solid enough for light use like walking or careful driving. While you may be able to park on it after 72 hours, the surface is still soft and should be treated gently. Full curing is a much longer process, taking anywhere from 30 days to a full year for the asphalt to reach maximum strength. During this extended curing period, the asphalt is susceptible to damage from heavy vehicles, sharp objects, and high temperatures. Factors like weather, the specific asphalt mix, and application thickness all influence drying and curing times. For the most accurate timeline and to ensure the longevity of your new asphalt, it is always best to consult with your installation contractor for their specific recommendations.
