He prepared our entire site, I am referring to bulldozing through the woods up a steep mountain to build us a perfectly sloped switchback road around streams and rock, creating appropriate drainage, moving gigantic rocks and leaving them in a beautiful artistic array and then removing all the cleared trees (huge piles) with controlled burning and finally creating a beautiful pad and building site (completely level) on the side of a mountain for us. We are still in awe. Fees were extremely fair and explained prior to any work. If I could describe the owner with one word, it would be integrity. What a hard working, highly skilled young man!! The best way to protect tree roots is to avoid the roots entirely by excavating outside the root radius of the tree. For nearby projects, it’s a good idea to construct a temporary retaining wall. But that’s not always possible, depending on the project and the root system. In these cases, consider using alternative equipment like an auger to tunnel under the ground.
Remember, tree roots can damage nearby cement foundations as they grow. If a tree is close enough to interfere with large excavations, it may be better to remove the tree than risk future problems.
